Good God Damm, watch this movie. Kurt Russell,Night Owl, Jack from Lost, a bunch of god damm troglodyte cannibals,,,,and a pretty lady with yellow hair. All agreed to take minimum wage to make a god damm fukkin awesome movie set in the undeveloped west of 150 years ago. Sid Haig for fuck sake! Captain Spaulding if you will. If the 130 minute run time is too much for you just skip forward 20 minutes and start watching. There is some exposition in the third act that will get you all caught up. Also you can jump forward during the second act from time to time without missing much of anything of importance.

I have seen this movie categorized as horror western. Well not really. Western, yes, horror, definitely not. No music cues to set you on edge like the violin screech in Psycho or the cello from Jaws. Actually, there may not even be any non diegetic music in this entire movie. Yeah its a western. People travel from place to place on horses, wear cowboy hats, own guns, though it was refreshing to see that not every man goes about his daily routine strapped with loaded shooting iron. Even the sheriff does not wear his guns 24/7.

Anyway, I just had to pee and when walking back to my computer to finish writing this I almost broke my pinkie toe on my left foot. Grazed my toe against the foot of a big heavy chair. A quarter inch to the left and my pinkie toe would have been hooked, and the forward momentum of my foot would have turned that toe completely sideways and then backwards. My pinkie toe would have been looking at my heel. Thank the gods I was that quarter inch to the right. Anyway, where was I?

Oh yeah, Bone Tomahawk. At this point who doesn't have Amazon Prime? You can watch it free if you do. It's time well spent.

Also, there is one scene that has been described as "torture porn" a'la Hostel or Saw. Actually its not that bad. But if you think you are likely to lose your lunch from watching such things just close your eyes and plug your ears for 45 seconds when the guy gets scalped.

Alright. Are you ready?  big John McCarthy points to the guy to his right...... Are you ready? big John McCarthy points to the guy to his left.  Well lets get it on!!!!!

Um, you may want to remove that part in the 5th paragraph for spoilers.

You think the fact that some person gets scalped in a western that features canibal indians is a spoiler? Well guess what, somebody in the new star wars has a laser sword. I'm guessing that somebody in The Hateful Eight dies, I don't know, I haven't seen it yet. Wouldn't that be a kick in the balls. Everybody in The Hateful Eight works out their differences and decides to sail to Norway and invent a way to cook fish without heat.
  • Cool. Thanks for the heads up. I'll watch it this week.

Holy crap just watched this, complete and utter chaos of the best kind.

One particular death scene, shit, I don't think I've seen anything quite like it.

And the best part? The movie is actually really funny too.
  • One of my good friends was raving about this movie.  She wanted something different to watch on a lazy Sunday to chill to, and she didn't realize what she signed up for.  She said she couldn't look away.

We'll have to check it out.  I've been in the mood for something different.

It's a solid movie. Not without it's flaws, but certainly not bad by any means. I think it could have done a lot better if it were marketed differently. I'm sure I'm not alone in reading "horror western" and thinking that it seemed gimmicky.
