Westworld!!!

I just watched the movie and I gotta say it was pretty rad. I can definitely see why HBO would want to adapt it. I was surprised to see that Michael Crichton wrote and directed it.

Has anyone else seen the movie? Any thoughts on where they might take the story?

Is the HBO version a movie, or a TV show? I was unable to tell.

@Heff It's a TV show. It said "HBO Original Series" at the beginning of the new trailer.

@DrKen Damn. I never even knew there was a movie. I'm definitely "all in" as well though. Looks amazing!!

Awesome! I'm always interested in adding another HBO show to our repertoire.

I'll have to keep an extra eye open for this one.

I'm surprised so many people hadn't heard of the movie. I've never seen it, but I thought it had a pretty big following.

The trailer looked really good. Will definitely be watching this.
  • Are you going to review the movie as the first episode of this cast?

A TV Show. First season is 10 eps.

@hypergenesb Good call. A movie review/preview cast would be a solid way to kick it off.

New trailer, best one so far. I'm pretty psyched for this show! The cast is amazing, that last scene ... Seems like Anthony Hopkins is bringing his A game.

Caught this before the Night Of. My expectations are through the roof. If there were any show id be happy about taking The Leftovers slot it's definetely this show.

Super crazy Virtual Reality orgies!!!!! WOOOOO!!! (From the trailer on HBO)

Kidding aside, I am excited for this show. As a fan of both Westerns and sci-fi, this is right up my alley. The premise reminds me of the 2009 movie Gamer, with Gerard Butler and Michael C. Hall.

I saw it in a theater as a teenager in the 70s.

That should give you an idea of how old my ass is.

Does that man even have a B game?

He does have a slightly lower gear that he shifts into for, say, a Zorro.

Not streaming for free right now on either Netflix or Amazon (Amazon for $3.99?)

This is a brilliant idea. I've been meaning to watch the movie for years now, just never got around to it. I have a few weeks.
  • Kind of fun tune where the first verse is about Yul Brenner and Westworld.

I would kind of want the preview podcast to...well, preview the show. Maybe split the hour and talk about the show (expectations, potential, people involved, why was it in development hell for so long, etc) for the first half and devote the other half to the movie and what plot points from the movie would or wouldn't translate well to the show.

Yep. You can tell when he just is needing a 17th vacation home and needs to pay some bills. With that said, remember when he wrote that fan letter to Bryan Cranston about his work on Breaking Bad? That was some classy shit.

Seems like they are only showing West World (the vacation destination) in Westworld. I wonder if HBO intends on showing any of the other "worlds".
  • Watched the 1973 movie again last night. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. Can't wait for the show.
