Wanted to see if folks would want to help me do a commission for a Denzel Washington film? My favs of his are Glory, training day and American gangster. Anyone anyone?
Flight wasn't that good IMO. Would def be down for Training Day though. Such a great performance and I think the movie has held up well over time. @A_Ron_Hubbard what do you think? Can we get it on the list of commissions?
Training Day has long been the movie that I would have commisioned if I had the money. Glory is an equally great choice to have a podcast for and is ripe for conversation. I think my ranking of his movies would be something like Training Day>Glory>Man on Fire>Malcom X>Crimson Tide>Philadelphia and a smattering of others movies that I though were "ok" like Flight.
What did you guys think of Flight? I thought it was a fascinating...yet also somewhat inaccurate depiction of alcoholism.
one hell of a first 20 minutes without a doubt.
I really enjoyed most of it. But then again addiction runs in my family and my dad is an airline pilot (no issues of that sort with him), so it could just be the intersection of both of those subjects that were super compelling.
Flight, Malcom X, or He Got Game. Pretty much everything else he's done is garbage, IMO. Not always because of him, but he doesn't help. Training Day might be the most overrated piece of trash in his catalog. I can't stand that movie or the love it gets. Ricochet is easily the funniest, but not because of Denzel.
Has anyone check out W. Kamau Bell's podcast "Denzel Washington Is The Greatest Actor Of All Time Period"? It's a somewhat tongue and cheek podcast where they break down his entire catalog. I recommend the one on Flight as a start (episode 14). http://www.earwolf.com/show/denzel-washington/
