  • This is stupid, I know this is probably dumb:

Could a Canadian use a Visa gift card or something to make it not more Canadian dollars? Is there anyway around that?

I'm not brilliant with conversion rates.

They would still have to buy the giftcard for $48 USD, which would cost around $65 CAD at the current exchange.

    Told you it was stupid.

For those of us already signed up for the yearly subscription - I think it was twelve dollars back when I subd, will that payment change. A monthly change or will I just be paying more when I auto-renwal?

So, when we go to the new system, no one will be marked for auto-renewal.  Everyone will have to affirmatively decide to continue their subscription when they run out.  You will get a few auto notices before this happens.  The reason for this is because we don't save your credit card info, and we have no way to transfer that to the new system.  We will be creating your balances on the new system with the amount of time left on your subscription, so if you signed up last month at $12, you can enjoy the entire remaining year before you have to decide whether you want to re-up at the new rates.

We're also going to have three and six month options too for a bit of flexibility.  Hope this answers your question!

The real question tho... in light of all these financials... is how much A.Ron's going rate went down for the Sheikh.

Hard to tell how elastic the demand would be for such a fungible asset.  Or is it how fungible the demand would be for such an elastic asset?

It's not stupid, it's just that exchange rates are a hard to get around.  It's hilarious everytime we take a check from Amazon into the bank for deposit, and it's from one of the Asian or Euro markets and it's yen or deutschmarks, or whatever.  They literally spend like 30 minutes deciding what to do with it, and then end up crediting us for what the estimate the check is worth, which inevitably gets adjusted 30-60 days later.  Which, now that I think about it, the local Chase branch is probably celebrating Amazon dropping us, since they won't have to deal with that any longer.

Anyway, short of earning US dollars just so you can pay in US dollars, I'm not aware of an easy work around.  Since both hopping the border for temp work and keeping  a separate price list for each country adjusted for the current exchange both seem like an overly complicated solutions I'm not sure!  :/
  • I just want to thank you guys for the free entertainment you have provided me for the past couple years and I was happy to start my membership today. I meant to join the past 6 months but just didn't until now. I was wondering if there was a way to set up some kind of scholarship program. I would love to donate a membership to a needy fellow listener. haha

  • Just give Trumpy a few months. Parity may not be dead.

    Hey guys,

I glad you made your goal. I sent in a donation and hope it helps a little,

I have been a member for a while now at the $12 month level. It seemed easy to jump in because the "buck a month" made me feel like it was very little to me but adding my $1 to dollars of other people was making it possible for you guys to make quality product.

This next part is hard for me. My $20 USD donation cost me $28 CAD in conversion and I wouldn't have thought twice if the price doubled or tripled but the jump to $48 per year would be quite tough for me - that's $79 CAD$, It will be a serious decision whether or not I can continue as a member.

I admire what you guys did going on your own and I have enjoyed feeling like a part of your success with my (albeit) small contribution. If I can continue, it will be because of the relationship you have cultivated with your members over the years. I am afraid new listeners might not be as willing to jump on at such an increased price?

You have really worked the numbers, so if anyone can make it work, it's you. I hope I am able to remain part of the membership community in the future.
  • We are almost up to $36k. The guys said they had a $38k hole that they needed filled for the next year, with $25k of that being before February.

Everyday I check to see how close we're getting to $38k, everyday I have a little voice of doubt saying there's no way it's still going. Everyday it still is.

We're going to hit the goal for 2017. Not the stopgap goal, the actual goal.

    I'm so freaking proud.

  • Only $1100 to go before you guy hit the big 38k! I feel we should have made @A_Ron_Hubbard agree that if they hit the 38k that we would have to run through the streets of Ohio cover in green jello, reading a hustler and smoking a cuban cigar like Denis Leary in Demolition Man.

Sorry if this was brought up already, I didn't go through all posts, I'm one of those people.

I work for an affiliate company (cj.com), would you ever consider creating a deals/coupon page? it might require some time to create it and apply to programs, but could be helpful.
  • I donated, because I couldn't figure out how to re subscribe at the new price, but I will when the time comes for me next year.

My introduction to Bald Move was Breaking Good, and I started watching Walking Dead because I find Steven Yeun very attractive.. but mostly because I wanted more Bald Move and I loved the podcast for the show. I love the old skits from Watching Dead - my infant daughter (/Gus voice) finds my impression of ARon's, "Currrrrrl, this is the zombie a-poc-o-lypse" hilarious. She also loves when I say "we ain't them" in Jim's Daryl voice. And since it is very important to me that my daughter finds me hilarious I feel the donation is more than worth it. I wish I could articulate more clearly why I and so many people find you two so endearing, but I cannot, and I can only hope that through all the self-deprecating humor you understand how much happiness you bring to so many :)

Yeah, sheesh, that's amazing.  Our goal was to not go broke, now we might have the cash to start the mobile app in Q1 of 2017.  Your generosity continues to astound!

  • I've been really excited about the app!

  • We've crossed 38k folks. Now if we raise another 10k, can you please make sure the app is supported on android TV? (Specifically, the nvidia shield TV which is running android?)

  • Wow. Congratulations to Bald Move for getting to your goal. I am so proud and happy for The bald move family. It's such a wonderful thing to see so many supporters for this website. And I know for me, what keeps me coming back to the podcasts are the personalities of the hosts on the network. It all starts with Jim and A-ron, but also Cecily, Eric, and Levi. (Am I forgetting a host? Please forgive me.) A huge thank you for the supporters and also the hosts of the website. I always have a great time listening to your podcasts, even if it's for a film that's not my cup of tea.

    Thanks again to all!

What's the requirements for that?  My thought as a developer would be that we'd have it done as purely in HTML5 as we can, which should be supported by a very wide variety of devices as possible.  I'm not saying that we'd support a native client for say, Windows phone, but if we stick to HTML5 that should run on a Windows phone just fine.  That might change when we actually start working with a team and see what impact design decisions will have on cost and timelines, but why wouldn't we want this to work on everything, all else being equal?

  • So now that you guys hit the 38k, is the app the next step? Or is that still too risky at this point and you're gonna wait til GoT brings back the big bucks?

Congrats guys. Keep on keeping on. Much love also to Cecily. Great chemistry with ARon on all your casts.

We'll see.  We're also applying for a business line of credit/loan in the 30k range.  I expect that to come through, which would allow us to get the app going fairly worry free, as if things are slow in 2017 because of the increase in club costs, we have it financed, and if things go briskly we can just pay it off quickly.  But I do think the app will be key for the club, because it's just going to make getting at the special club features super easy, and the barrier to entry will be so much lower.

  • See https://developer.android.com/distribute/googleplay/tv.html#how_to_participate for full details.

Basically build it with the leanback library included, and design it in such a way that it is compatible with a TV experience.  (Larger text, ability to be controlled via remote or game controller.)  When publishing, you must opt-in to the android tv store in the development console.  It really shouldn't take much more, and the video content is suited for the TV.

  • Just adding that I am so glad to see you guys go above and beyond the 25k. When it was announced that you might go under, my heart dropped. I check the progress bar everyday and it is inspiring to see bald move succeed. I listened to the recent podcasts (can't recall which it was in) and it seemed you two felt kind of bad about pushing save bald move after hitting the goal. Please don't! You two deserve all of the support and much more. I look forward to supporting you guys for years to come.
