What are you binging right now?

  • Big Little Lies comes back on Sunday, which should be pretty great. Ultimately though, I think you're right. We're in that between season void. Mostly, we've been catching up on older stuff that we missed. Working our way through Better Things lately (which we both loved, but kind of lost touch with after season 1).

Also, I think my wife said that The Good Place comes back later this month and that would be really great news.

What are people watching now on TV? I don't have anything set up recording currently on my DVR and I feel like right now is a void with nothing good on cable TV? I know Black Mirror just dropped a few more episodes but otherwise I'm just plugging away on older shows I've wanted to watch that I missed out on.

Naked and Afraid. There is not much else going on.

I introduced my roommate to Deadwood and binged it in time for the movie.  I'm introducing him to The Wire now, and he was just blown away by the "Fuck" scene in episode 4.  Other than that I'm excited for Big Little Lies, Black Mirror, and Handmaid's Tale.

I recently started The Wire and am at season 4 now and I wasn't blown away by the "fuck" scene but that was a pretty damn funny and great scene.  I've been debating starting Big Little Lies and I feel like now is the time to do it if I'm going to.  I can at binge through that right into the next season that's just starting.

    Honestly?  Project Runway.
Otherwise, there's not much on network tv that I've been into since the season ended for everything else I watch on network channels.  I'm all about Hulu, Amazon, Netflix, and HBO Now.
  • We rewatched the first Big Little Lies last night to start a re-watch leading to the new season. That show is so good. I had forgotten the perfect amount of it. Awesome show.

I just started up Succession, I'm sure this comparison was made a bunch when it came out but two episodes in this feels like a very dramatic Arrested Development. I can't get over how much like Gob the main character is.

With GOT ended, I'm going through the last two seasons of The Americans. Though I've come to realize that if I hadn't already gotten this far, I may have chosen to not finish it. I know a lot of people love it, but I don't think it's quite my cup of tea.
Worth watching all the way through.
  • Band of Brothers and Deadwood. Band because of D-Day anniversary, and Deadwood to get caught up before the movie

I finished Good Omens today.  It was a good show, well acted, pretty entertaining.

  • I'm not one who really cares at all about things that are other's subjective opinions but what the hell is Alan Sepinwall doing putting Game of Thrones in "Best" anything and leaving off True Detective?

  • Watched the first episode of City on the Hill and I looks to be decent, possibly a bit tropy but will have to see more episodes to find that out. I will probably watch the season and just grit my teeth through the Hollywood Boston Accents.

Are there other parts of the country and or world that actors do worst accents than Boston? The bar is set high on this one.

Burned through all 5 seasons of Bosch in the last month and half. Very enjoyable ld-school hardboiled detective show, really well made and looks great, and very meme-able, worth watching for Lance Reddick's facial expressions alone.

Ozarks. If BB is a 10 then this was a 7.8. Pretty good but not on BB level.

Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee.  Smooshed it in one fell swoop the night before vacation.  Which wasn’t wise but we couldn’t pull away!

I've watched all of Band of Brothers like 7 times, or more, it is so good.

  • From the Earth to the Moon
    10 out of 10

    FINALLY!

It is about time HBO made a high def version of their great achievement From the Earth to the Moon, a chronicle of the US Apollo space program. You can stream it on HBO or buy the new blu-ray.

What a great series. Every aspect is fantastic. The acting, the effects for the time and the attention to detail is beyond amazing. I believe former Apollo astronaut Dave Scott was the technical consultant. I forgot this came out a year before The Sopranos and should definitely be included in any list about the beginning of The Golden Age of Television.

I put this in the top 5 of series made for television with Band of Brothers, The Leftovers, The Wire and recent Chernobyl. I am a space nerd so of course I do but you can check out Alan Sepinwall's column on it: https://www.rollingstone.com/tv/tv-features/from-earth-to-moon-hbo-stream-now-landing-anniversary-860761/

I would agree with his review that the Apollo 13 episode is the weakest link but I understand why. The Apollo 13 movie  is already perfect, what could they to add to that story?

The Terror and Kingdom. Both were great. And I got to enjoy the Bald Move TV covering them, too!

I go back and watch BoB every few years. I still think it is one of the few works of art that is perfect.

Currently binging Legion. On S2 about halfway through. So amazing, I can't believe I didn't watch it when it came out. It's a beautiful display of a director with a purpose and willingness to push boundaries, who also trusts the audience to keep up.

I had heard that this final season of Orange is the New Black is pretty good.  I quit mid-season 5, so I'm catching up.  I really wish Aron & Cecily were still podcasting about it.

It's Seinfeld Saturday!  I'm making it a thing, if it isn't already one.
Starting at season 1, episode 1, watching each episode and listening to the accompanying podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/seincast-a-seinfeld-podcast/id896361045

Was watching Years and Years on HBO. Made it through three episodes before admitting it was crap.

At season 2, episode 8 of Legion. Love this show even though sometimes it takes me awhile to figure out what just happened.

Years and years was pretty good until the last episode. It got a little over the top and incredulous.

Yeah, it was bonkers but I loved the series until the last 10 minutes or so.

  • Wu Assassins on Netflix, hokey in a every way you’d expect from the title but entertaining and surprising a amount of heart
  • Just finished The Expanse.  I'm starting The Americans and getting back into Queen Sugar.

  • My wife and I got turned onto The OA and knocked the first season down in 3 sittings. It was really interesting. I kind of wish they gave a little more at the end, particularly since from the first half of the first episode in season 2 it seems like an anthology, but I can dig the whole "write the rest of it yourself" mentality. A little bit of a cop out, but I can dig it. I hope I'm wrong and we get to hang out with some of the season 1 characters in season 2 and maybe get some more clarity.
