The Last Jedi!

Ep. VIII has an official name : The Last Jedi. I am super excited to see what Rian Johnson does with Star Wars. Hoping Disney gave him enough latitude to do his thing. 11 months to go... now we need a trailer!

You beat me to it! I am SUPER excited!! Intrigued, also, by the choice of red lettering... red = sith. Will that have a bearing on this movie?

Yea struck me as very sith-y as well. Last Jedi ... obvious nod to Luke. But maybe Luke trains Rey, Luke dies, she's the last Jedi? Maybe Snoke and Luke fight, Luke force-ghosts? Seems kindof obvious (especially if they keep cribbing the OG trilogy, which I hope they don't do as much going forward), but the red lettering definitely points to something ominous.

Here we go for nearly a year of speculating and theorizing!
  • I have this feeling that there won't be anymore Jedi or sith. They are going to have a new order to take the place of the Jedi, and Rey will be the first one.

The other theory is that the title is misleading because Jedi is also the plural of Jedi (what did I just write!). There would be an arguement that either Luke, Rey or Kylo Ren are the Last Jedi. I like the option that Luke dies in this movie and Rey takes on the mantle or that Kylo Ren kills Snoke and turns his back from the  dark side.

I agree the red lettering is ominously pointing at the Sith.

Who needs a time machine to jump forward to December?

I agree with @webswinger that Luke is the Last Jedi and that Rey and Kylo are part of a new order without either Jedi or Sith. Perhaps we'll see the realization of the prophecy about Anakin, that he will bring balance to the Force after all.

I urge you to please notice when you are happy, and exclaim or murmur or think at some point, “If this isn’t nice, I don’t know what is."

I think Anakin did bring balance to the Force when he killed Darth Sidious.

Yea I agree that Anakin was the chosen one. He brought balance to the force when he crushed the Jedi and evened up the force. I mean as of ANH you have Vader/Palpatine vs Obi won and Yoda

"Episode IX: Revenge of the Ewoks"

Old Luke loops back in time in a Darth Vader costume and fights young Luke on Endor. An ancient Wicket the Ewok follows him and ALL HELL BREAKS LOOSE... Somewhere in the action, Leia is murdered, setting up a Carrie Fisher-less Ep. 9.
  • Anakin tipped the scales from one extreme to the other. It doesn't matter that there was the same number of sith and Jedi. To me it is the power that each side had. At the end of RotJ there was only Luke and he had no power.
I have a fan theory that at th very beginning Jedi used both the light and dark side. Over time the dark side seduced Jedi to do evil. As this happened more rules were made and the Jedi order was corrupted by the light. So bringing balance to the force was really wiping away all thouse rules. Ala no love, no possessions, taking babies etc....
I was hoping that Luke found the og teaching at the first temple and reset the Order but that is just a fantasy. I believe they are going to get rid of both Jedi and Sith. I will be sad cuz both are a big part of my childhood and love of Star Wars Universe.

  • Apparently some of the foreign versions of the title indicate that The Last Jedi is indeed the plural version of "Jedi" ...

Damn English and our ambiguous adjectives!
