This week you are correct :) he’s been taking his hands off of the writing wheel this year though.
  • For an “off” week episode this one was a winner for me. Huge range of emotions projected throughout the episode. I can’t rememeber if we knew Trenton was where her brother was born (it seemed new to Elliot). Her brother sensing something was up stays with him preventing deletion. Loved the little quips about RT and critics. The end with Elliot breaking down almost got me, then him going to Angela and doing ehhh same favor was another poke to the heart.

Bravo Sam, Bravo i really hope this season sticks the ending. This season has been excellent.

  • Man this episode really hit me for some reason.  This show works really hard to pack a lot of details into every episode, but this episode was given some space and I felt like it really paid off. This was the first time I really felt like Elliot was a human.  That kid was an annoying shit and Elliot balanced being annoyed and concerned for his well being.

If you were getting deleted by Elliot what would he label your CD?

  • Fuck that was good. Might've been my favorite episode of the season, and ranks way up there this year for getting me goddamn emotional along w/ episodes of The Leftovers and Halt and Catch Fire.

Loved the episode,  very good use of the metaphor of deletion for death/suicide.

I'm not sure ,but the kid seemed like a figment of Eliot's imagination? They maybe set that up in the first scene with young Elliot talking to the empty chair in the cinema, who was presumably not his Dad he was seeing, so he's had other imaginary friends.

Is Back to the Future even a reference any more, it's basically part of the plot now.

Also loved the meta, 'critics have shitty taste', and the debate in the line about, what Back the Future/Mr Robot is actually about.

And Jesus! Did you see the people in costume at Back to the Future, there was a town hall costume and a sports a almanac guy, it was amazing!

Interested to hear your takes on the more absurdest stuff, like the couple passionately making out as Eliot leaves the cinema, the Jewish, treats-truck driver, totally empty mosque etc?

  • Did Elliot Hack Trenton's email or did she send it ti him? Neither seems plausible, the former because wouldn't a hacker like Trenton have taken measures  to prevent any such hacking, and the latter because Elliot doesn't seem like someone Trenton would "trust".
  • I suppose you could file this under TTDAB, but for me, it weakens the plot, but not enough to put a damper on this season

She sent it to him(I think). I believe that email was from a previous season. I didn’t see the credentials used however.

Do I stick with this show?

I see this amazing feedback, and I love listening to 2-Bit Encryption, but for me the first episode of Season 3 was almost unwatchable.

(Yes, I've even tried Background Watching this show, but I find this doesn't work due to the oblique dialog and convoluted story-telling.)

I believe the last episode she mentioned an email would be sent to someone she trusts if something ever happened to her
  • Wow.
    Just finished the episode.
Every time I think I can't love this show more than I do ... the next episode makes me love this show even more!

Beautiful episode, I was totally taken by surprise.  Well done Esmail, well done.

  • One of my favorite scenes of S3 thus far. Angela and Elliot are more isolated than ever, yet they desperately need each other. I hope this portends their reconnection. The quiet moments of Mr. Robot are really something special.

Yeah, that final shot. Wow.  As far as pep talks go, @adampasz, I dunno. Maybe you just don't like the show? I thought the first episode was pretty good, and from there they've ranged from great and amazing. But that doesn't mean you'll like it. Lost is a great show that I infamously don't enjoy.

If you want to, push through until at least the one shot episode. If that doesn't win you over from a purely art or spectacle angle, you can go ahead and delete Mr. Robot from your memory banks.

  • Start of that final sequence I was wondering why Elliot was at the Seattle library:

  • Wow, that episode gave me a lot of feels. Unusual and unexpected from Mr. Robot, and they still nailed it.
    Elisa
  • Mr. Robot climbs higher up my "best shows of 2017" list with each new episode. Phenomenal stuff.
    Elisa
  • At this point the final two episodes can be just average and I’m still convinced this Season is an all time high. What an amazing character work episode.

I was so glad that the little boy was real and did bail on Elliot. I was a little scared there for a second that it was just his imagination acting up again. That wound from season two hasn't fully healed but at least I don't need morphine anymore for the pain. Maybe I should give up on treatments altogether and face the reality, that this season has been really great. Nice symmetry  there with Elliot living and doing for the boy who he (untintentally) hurt what Mr Robot couldn't do for Elliot because he died.
I loved the Angela / Elliot scene, she could have said something completly absurd like sorry for getting you fired and they could have laughed about it, I would have liked that. :-)
I really liked that Elliot turned his addiction / suicide attempt into something positive by using the morphine as commodity to pay for Mobley's funeral and playing to his strengths as a hacker from season one. Most shows don't have the balls to go much smaller again for a whole episode where drug dealers and doorlocks are potential problems  after expanding the story/universe for quite some time. This could have been the season finale for me, a reset which leaves me satisfied and still wondering where we go from here.

  • Loved the style at the beginning and end of the episode, but for me everything with the kid was pretty damn rough and TTDAB to boot. Maybe I missed some explanation because I just couldn't stand his voice, but why are these people not being interrogated by the government? Why are they not watching their child like a hawk when the family could clearly be in danger? This child is in fact a robot, right?

It was obviously (IMO) a play on what Elliot went through. The parents while seemingly “good” were neglectful. We see this often, parents leave their children for hours (I could tell you some stories from when I worked security at a casino) unattended.

It’s been weeks since the incident so I’m sure the interrogation already happened (we don’t need to see it). I’m not sure we need to see that either as it wouldn’t serve the story at all.

The child IMO is real, the brother of Trenton. I was worried a little bit that he may be another imaginary character, but I believe this was a redemption episode and Trenton’s Brother was a reflection of Elliot whom we saw earlier in acted similarly when he was about the same age.

  • Listening to the podcast ... What the heck is a "top dab" ???
  • Listening now... you guys just wondered about the Lorraines (not Elaine!) as Elliot was leaving the theater? Don't overthink it! "Lorraine" was griping about her shoes, and slipped them off (kinda llike how the kid did). Elliot saw that and *lightbulb*! Li'l Mo went to Mosque!

I forget what the acronym actually stands for, but it's @A_Ron_Hubbard's short hand for the lack of believability in the legitimate impact the hacks would have had on the economy and world of Mr. Robot. These flaws in Mr. Robot reality disrupt his ability to suspend belief or they take his brain out of the moment. Something like that...

  • So, Mr Robot is proof that it's possible for a show to recover after a terrible season. This makes me feel better about waiting 4 seasons for The Walking Dead to get better :-)

Listening to podcast again..the aspect ratio you were looking for was 2.39:1 I believe.
  • I read a really good theory about this episode ... It's not a spoiler, but is it ok to post it here?
