After seeing the Op Ivy reference, my head went straight to the s/t Specials record. On my way to press play on it now. I didn't realize until a few years ago, but Elvis Costello totally produced that record. That record is kind of a sneaky all-timer for me. May have to take a run at Op Ivy later on today too. I haven't listened to that stuff in years. Good call @Chinaski! Op Ivy stuff always brings back good memories for me because we used to make movies back in high school and my buddy who handled all of the video production aspects loved them and they were frequent soundtrackers of those little projects. Good times.

  • I would check out Lucy Dacus's new album Historian. She was interviewed by Andy Greenwald a couple weeks ago on the watch and I have been obsessed with the album ever since. It's the perfect rainy day or driving music.

“When I say I’m in love you best believe I’m in love L  U V.”

For or the past two weeks I’ve been into the Shangri-las. I’ve been streaming some greatest hits album. I love the spoken dialogue during the songs. The kind of not so sharp production. I always liked the wall sound stuff. There some kind of working class vibe I get from this band. I don’t know but they had a handful of hits.

I’ve been testing out Ghost the last few weeks. I think I gotta to get more into that band.

    Monday Metal, that’s awsome!

I’ve been glued to Tom Petty’s Buried Treasure channel. They play old shows going back about 10 years or so. Lots of old R&B sixties well a great mix. Some I have heard but don’t remember. ATM Sway from The Rolling Stones from my favorite Stones album Sticky Fingers.

Jim Ladd is  back on Deep Tracks he’s been sick or something for months. I’ve been listening to him since the early eighties.

Taking a trip through Ventura County circa 2006-2011 or so today. Franklin For Short, The Spires, Seth Pettersen and the Undertow (Seth is also the singer/songwriter for Franklin). Friggin amazing bands that not nearly enough people will ever hear. We used to open for Franklin For Short every so often when I was playing. Really, really great, like salt of the earth dudes. Their bass player also had his own thing called Tall Tales and the Silver Lining which is also fantastic, but I figure 3 videos is already a bit indulgent.
Unfortunately, the Spires best stuff was early on in their run and really tough to find, but I like this tune:

    Franklin For Short

    Seth Pettersen and the Undertow

EDIT: I doubt anyone is interested, but I totally love this Spires record and you can stream it on Bandcamp (only place that I know of, including youtube, where the tunes are available). Just tossin it out there. I'm bummed their first two EPs don't seem to exist in the digisphere anymore. They're fantastic.

  • @fidoz Nice call! I'm only really familiar with the self titled, but I've always liked that record quite a bit. Not sure why I've never branched out from there. I'm gonna add it to the list.
  • Dirty Computer by Janelle Monáe is up on Spotify! Been looking forward to this for a long time. It’ll definitely be in heavy rotation for a while.

Today’s metal Monday I’m listening to Green Day’s Dookie, Insomniac, Nimrod and Warning albums because I’m feeling very nostalgic and those were influential albums of my high school years.

There probably isn't anyone here who lived in the SF Bay Area in the late '80s/early '90s, but Live105 in SF used to play modern rock/new wave-ish stuff then and it was *the* station to listen to if you were into that stuff (which my friends and I were).  I created a custom station on Pandora and am streaming the heck out of it this morning, and loud.  It's nice being the only one in the office sometimes.  :)

I forgot about KSJO!  What were the other stations you had programmed?  Please don't say KMEL.

I miss old Live105 before grunge and 'new rock' took over!  So much fun.  There was Alex Bennet's morning show (you used to be able to sit in the audience in this small-ish studio and watch them broadcast live), some other DJ's I don't remember, and Steve Masters and his modern mix.  God, I used to have the biggest crush on him.  lol

never really did Alice but i would occasionally rock KFOG (thinking back it seems like they ALWAYS played the Eagles).
