Henry cavill no longer superman

Got reported by multiple sources today. Personally I only care about wonder woman and batman in the DCEU. The arrowverse is great and titans comes out soon.

  • Is this officially confirmed? If so, Henry was criminally misused. He was no Christopher Reeve, but I thought he was as good of a casting as you could ask for, they just gave him shit material in all the movies to work with. Bummer.

  • I thought Cavill was a very good Superman. The instability of the DC franchise is one of its major weaknesses outside of getitng food films made.

Henry Cavill's agent saying he's still superman. She says WB will be making their own statement as well.

The insider I follow, she was reporting Cavill was pushing for more money. Dany Garcia is a new agent for Cavill.

Cavill is going going to be Geralt of Rivia in the new Witcher series on Netflix. I like the idea of a Witcher series I would rather have Mads Mikkelsen. I think I saw some one post a cool pics of Mads as Geralt on the forums.

  • I am not that into the DC movies but for some reason this makes me kind of sad.   He was a good fit for Superman.  But it seems like a kind of boring role without a lot of range.   He is just invincible and good.   Or having to deal with some plot contrivance that gets him out of the way for awhile before he can come back and save the day.  And I can understand if he is leaving to do other projects.

There's one current DCEU hero who's had a smashingly successful movie, and it's not Superman. Get rid of him, Affleck, and anyone who's not Gal Gadot. Nuke the planet from orbit and start fresh.

    I'd keep Margot too.

Based on what WB just said in a release, this definitely has the public negotiation vibe.

There have been a million issues with the DCU, Cavill hasn't been one of them.

Here's her take on it today:

And later, her take on WB's statement as well as a discussion of how Supergirl sans Cavill would be a misstep:

Cavill is a really good Superman, unfortunately he's been cast in pretty crummy Superman movies. It's Brosnan/Bond all over again.

  • Agree. Cavill and Afleck are not the problem with DC. Look to the writing, directing, and tone/consistency.

The reason that the Nolan trilogy is peak DC has everything to do with Nolan and much less to do with Christian Bale.

I really wish we got a Nolan Batman & Robin or even just Robin movie with JGL.

I was SO HOPEFUL after goldeneye. It was far from perfect, but it was a pretty damn good bond flick and Brosnan was great in it. Then literally every other Brosnan Bond movie happened.

Now that I think about it, the same thing happened with Craig and Casino Royale...

No, I didn't find it very good. It was better than Qunatom of Solace and Specte (which I had to look up the name for - god that movie was forgettable), but still not a great movie. There were a lot of good scenes, but it was a bit of a narrative mess to me and (even though this is true of all bond movies), it felt like so many people had to make dumb mistakes for the villain's plan to work.

You had to look up the name for it and even then you still didn't spell it right. That is how forgettable Spectre was.

  • Yep, I agree with everything you said except for your regard for Goldeneye.  It's been years now, but the best thing about that movie was the N64 game.  Shame that they muffed the reintroduction of SPECTRE as well.

  • I’m one of the rare folks who is not that bothered by the DC films and thinks Cavill has been insanely good as Superman. I have gotten choken up by his portrayal of the most mythical super hero of all. That said I will never argue the DC films are even remotely on the same level as the Marvel ones, but I will say DC takes more risks and is less paint by the numbers. I always have a good time watching a Marvel movie but I have literally guessed the plots and actual lines of dialogue in the last couple of films starting with Dr. Strange.  Whenever Cavill is doing something inspiring in that red and blue suit and Hans Zimmer’s score starts to play I start to consider what a world must be like to have a being like that on your planet and how that would change things. I really hope they give him at least one more movie. Maybe keep him around to transition to the hinted Superwoman (come on let’s get away from girl right?) movie. Cheers.

Yeah, I haven't seen goldeneye in probably a decade. I'm kind of terrified to go back and watch it.

I caught some of it on cable the other week, IMO it's still a really fun Bond movie.
