I know there are a few of us vinyl collectors on the board. Here's a spot to talk about the latest or greatest additions to your collection.

  • I've been on a huge post punk kick lately. I just picked up Suicide's self titled debut and Magazines "Real Life." Both are outstanding records. Especially for anyone in to late 70's early 80's rock.

Old school southern gangster rap vinyl collector. Makes it pretty easy since most of my favorites weren't ever released on the medium. Other than that I have some funk and soul albums from the 60s/70s. Mondotees.com has started releasing these really cool limited edition movie soundtracks. Going to start checking in on them regularly and snag up any that are actual favorite movies of mine. Scores only.
  • I had the Muppet movie soundtrack on vinyl when I was a kid
Does the Alvin and and Chipmunks vinyl when I was a kid count too? :p

SPOTIFY EXCLUSIVE – SHINY AND OH SO BRIGHT, VOL. 1 / LP: NO PAST. NO FUTURE. NO SUN. CLEAR VINYL BUNDLE

So look, I know Uncle Billy has really gone off the deep-end over the years, and it is known he’s a prick on like a Lou Reed level, but still I’m a pumpkin dork. Like, lace sensors in my first strat, had and learned the whole Siamese Dream tablature book when I was 14 and had Viewphoria on VHS.

1000 of these were pressed. I got the email from Spotify at 12:18 and had it ordered by 12:20. Now it’s out of stock.  I have a strong feeling this vinyl could have some good value eventually.  Not rare Explosions In The Sky vinyl value but maybe $40 instead of the $20 I paid for it.

If it does then I'm counting my copy of Disco Duck from when I was a kid.

I had a huge vinyl collection, nothing real outstanding but I just wanted the albums I liked at the cheapest price. I had lots of used stuff and stuff that wasn’t in mint condition. I had a Techniques MK 1200 turn table and a decent amp And speakers. I got the turntable in 86 after I graduated high school. Around 2000 I lent it out to my brother who broke it. I bought a Sony to replace for a hundred bucks or so. Anyway one day I sat looking at the stacks of records and decided I want them gone. Put them in the back of my truck and took them to Salvation Army drop off. This was a few years before records started making a come back. Still I really have no regrets. I replaced everything on mp3 or cd.

  • I’ve got a good sized record collection, thanks in no small part to having inherited the collections of my father, grandfather, and mother-in-law when each of them passed.  I have no idea if I have anything particularly rare or valuable, I’m just a big music geek and I’ve never thought about selling anything or trying to make a profit.  The stuff that’s meaningful to me is a bunch of original Beatles albums, Christmas albums from the 50’s and 60’s, my grandpa’s enormous collection of classical music on 78’s, and odd things that I’ve collected like Wu-Tang’s “Protect Ya Neck” 12” single that I got in Germany or a copy of Zeppelin’s ‘Physical Graffiti’ that got me through customs even though I didn’t declare anything because the customs officers was all “Zep rules, so I’ll let you slide.”

Cool stuff I’ve gotten recently include an original pressing of the Stones’ ‘Sticky Fingers’ with the working zipper, a copy of the American Beatles compilation ‘Hey Jude’ for my friend whose favorite song that is that’ll be a great birthday present, and an original copy of Eno’s ‘Taking Tiger Mountain (By Strategy)’ to go with my Japanese printing.  I also collect copies of Paul Kantner’s first solo album ‘Blows Against the Empire,’ partially because it’s one of my favorite albums and partially because you can usually find copies in the 75¢ bin!  And I recently got a pretty rare (as far as I know) original copy with the lyric book intact, which is no small feat considering it was printed on essentially tissue paper.  But the record I value the most is a one of a kind album my grandfather recorded in the late 50’s of himself playing classical guitar.  He was an amazing musician, incredibly gifted, and to have a recording of him playing that predates the Beatles is beyond priceless to me.

My husband got a record player two years ago for his birthday. His focus is David Bowie, Rush and Pearl Jam! He’s got a few exclusives that are different colors that are pretty cool!

  • What’s that one record you don’t have but really want. For me it’s The Go-Betweens “Before Hollywood”

These are probably my 2 most favorite LPs in my collection at the moment:

I want a really nice condition (ideally autographed) original copy of the Go-Go’s ‘Beauty and the Beat,’ or a really nice condition original copy of the Cure’s ‘Pornography.’  The used book store by me has a copy of Pornography with a torn cover where they had a price tag and ripped it off but the price is outrageous, especially for something they clearly damaged.

How much do they want at the used book store? Man I’d give you double if you snatched that. The record is good?

  • I picked up original copy of Beauty and Beat at Half Price Books for $4.99. Really good condition both the record and cover. Just picked up the 180gm reissue of Siouxsie and the Banshees "Ju Ju."

  • Just picked up Soccer Mommy - Clean.  Yep, I'm 53.

There was a Foundry Field Recordings ep that is only on vinyl, and shockingly (not shocking) it totally doesn't exist anymore.
One record that I got a shit ton of mileage out of when I had my old collection before I gave it all away when my record player broke, not realizing that I would start collecting again, was The Beatles Past Masters 2. Fantastic comp that really plays well to the vinyl sound. It was neck and neck with Graceland and Parsley Sage Rosemary and Thyme as my favorite records to listen to on vinyl. Just feels right. I need to pick up My Aim is True again one of these days too. That's another one that is TRULY optimized by the vinyl experience. It's meant for it.

Silly side note: I saw this thread hanging around for like a week before I realized it wasn't some random discussion about the show Vinyl. I had thought it was really strange that there was a Vinyl resurgence, then it finally clicked.

  • Grabbed and original issue Pere Ubu "Dub Housing" for $7 yesterday. The cover is in less than ideal shape but the record sounds great and is a great addition on my growing post punk collection.

I've been cataloging my collection on Discogs. I've done my 7" so far and plan on getting to the 12" this week. Mostly pop punk/metal/hardcore stuff but some other randoms in there as well. Ill update the list when I'm finished

Amazon has it on Vinyl for $20 for what it's worth. I'm sure it's not an original copy, but just to grab the record in general.

It’s like $30 or $35 and the record is in probably Fair condition at best.  It’s been there for months now, guess I’m the only Cure fan in Milwaukee.  I’m content to wait for another one to come along, I’m in no rush.  But if you’re into it I’ll take a pic this weekend when I go so you can see.

Oh damn they’re proud of it. Well thanks for the info. I can see why you passed on it.

I have a bunch of Cure LPs, 12", & 45s, including Pornography with the original $4.99 sticker from Sounds (St. Mark's in NY), it's in great shape with original inner sleeve with photo/lyrics but I don't want to sell, sorry. Also an original promo copy of Happily Ever After. No GoGo's though. Most of my stuff is from 80s trips to Sounds in fact. Just got a new stylus so I'm in honeymoon phase right now
