I didn't recognize the name, so I looked to see what else Deborah Chow has done. She did that jailbreak episode from the first season of Mr. Robort. That was one of the most harrowing episodes of the season. I am pumped.

Lead in programming for tonight on AMC: Con Air. I got a good feeling about this.
  • In true fashion they are starting to step on the gas. They made a LARGE time jump, which really is the only way they could pull off what they did. This episode showed us so much in this tiny sliver of actual time. We see the birth of Sail Goodman, Jimmy and Kim move away from each other (basically break up), the hollowed out location of the future meth lab and Gus finding out Don Hector is more there then he lets on. I’m kind of wishy-washy on the second music usage (to bring the team down) as it might have pushed it a little too much after the opening montage. For a moment I thought that might be all we got this episode. Hopefully people liked this one more as with the advanced time shift we should really get going to where most want to get to (Saul the lawyer).

I wonder if the whole time Walt, Jesse, and Gale were cooking in the superlab they didn't know there was a dead mouthy german in the concrete

  • I think it's time I ask the burning question of Better Call Saul so far.

Why doesn't Jimmy just become a car salesman.  In 5 or 10 years, he would probably be able to open his own dealership.  If Daniel-San can do it in Cobra Kai, I have faith in Saul.

It was really fantastically done. During the opening, I got worried for a second just because of the change in format. But it became obvious that Deborah Chow is just super competent and confident.

Yeah, that's the thing. He would be an expert salesman in just about any field. Knowing him though, just the salesmanship wouldn't be enough. He'd eventually get bored and need to do something shady to give him that rush. That is the only reason he is doing the phone thing. He gets bored and needs to start coloring outside the lines.
  • Just think of all the shady crap he could eventually do at the car dealership.  There's no reason he couldn't just walk onto the lot and become a car salesman as easily as becoming a cell phone salesman. Comission on cars is a lot better, and from those crappy reality shows on car dealerships back on the day, non-paying try outs at the dealership were a thing.
  • Oh and I am guessing we're leading up to Kim getting suspended or disbarred for something stupid she ends up doing to help Jimmy.

It just hit me that the German workers have very little to no chance of surviving this. One of them saw Gus’s face, they know the lab is in a laundry mat and they know Mikes full name. If you add that something is definitely going to go wrong here, it doesn’t look good for them at all.

  • Two things. One the cocktail party scene was as cringey as it gets and Goddamn Gus can cook his ass off

Is there any chance they are Madgrigal guys. Isn’t the main office German? Maybe they are part of the plan? I just don’t see how Gus can liquidate 8 dudes and then Mike be surprised at box cutter as mentioned in the casts. It would be hard to pull off.

It does seem like something is going to happen with RandR that’s going to cause a major problem though.

  • RIP Kai. Though his character would be an amazing red herring if they did all that buildup and someone else ended up the problem.

All i I know is we got 3 things setting up.

    1. They need to make an explosion
    2. Kai is the best demo they got
    3. RandR and Kai sounds like a bad idea
  • I can see a moment where Gus reveals something to Hector, something that Hector wants to tell Don Eladio, but is only able violently tap his finger and drool, maybe even shit his pants. The Gus leans over to Hector as if to give him a comforting Hug and says, “this is just the beginning.”

Yeah that’s what I think too. They are already on the line of knowing too much, maybe they will find out where they are. I doubt Mike will take them to a local place for R&R but they might figure it out some other way and get them all killed eventually.

I don’t think they will be killed right away though because they need to finish the construction (although that might explain the time gap between now and BB) and I think Mikes security team has to come into play somehow.

Wild guess but Kai finds out where the operation is but doesn’t tell anyone right away then the security team finds out later Kai knows too much and is comprising everything. Gus decides to tie up all loose ends at some point.
  • I had this thought at 5am this morning and it woke me up fully as soon as I started to mull it over . . .

If we go with the theory a couple people had on the Instant Take, Kim is getting office supplies for some sort of protest.  Either against the prosecutor for unequal justice or the policeman for overzealous policing (or something like that), and the protest gains enough momentum or generates enough pressure to set Huel free.  What if after being disgraced like that, the prosecutor or the policeman commits suicide (like Chuck)?  Then that would make two people that Kim and Jimmy will have "killed" with their combined legal shenanigans.  I think something like that would definitely be the nail in the coffin for Kim & Jimmy's relationship, if not possibly Kim's relationship with the law itself.

I can imagine maybe Kai disappearing to Belize. But Gus (and Mike) value loyalty and commitment. I don't think Mike Ehrmantraut would let Gus wipe Werner and crew off the map? That doesn't strike me as viable to either of their moral compasses.
  • I didn’t like this theory when I first heard it either but now I’ve convinced myself it’s going down like that.

I bet gus pumps some poisonous gas into the air in their living area too. Low ventilation.   Might even be able to make it look like an accident so Mike doesn’t get mad. It’s going to be a massacre.

Why would Gus want to kill them all? I could see if one guy became a problem but Gus is a businessman and clearly has connections to other underworld businessman types, otherwise he wouldn't have been able to audition people for the job. Killing the entire crew would be reckless and self-destructive as it would certainly burn a lot of bridges for Gus in organized crime circles.

It doesn’t seem a viable business prospect either. Who’s going to go into the business of building secret dungeons if you’re going to get bumped off after you build one?

  • I don’t think it’s something they planned on doing in the first place but they can’t let them loose if they learn too much.

Also cartels are well known to kill off their tunnel diggers after they are completed. The only way the feds find out about those tunnels is if someone talks and the cartels don’t like taking the risk.

This is a little different but it’s still a major operation they have to protect at all costs.

Okay, they've asked us to suspend disbelief plenty of times in the Badverse. And I can do it. I can accept a show that takes place over the course of a single year but never shows a national holiday. I can accept that a simple air controller fugue state would result in a mid-air collision 5,000 feet over a residential neighborhood. I can accept that there's someone on planet Earth who cares if methamphetamine is 99% pure and not merely 97% pure.

But what I can never accept is that Huell Babineaux would ever, ever in a million years, take a collar for pick pocketing. Cuz that guy's fingers are frickin' NIMBLE.
