Breaking Bad Movie?

The long-speculated “Breaking Bad” feature film will begin filming in Albuquerque.

According to the New Mexico Film Office, the production, “Greenbrier,” will begin production in the Duke City mid-November through early February.

The film office wouldn’t confirm or deny that the project was a “Breaking Bad” film.

But a source close to the project confirmed the production.

According to the logline, “Greenbrier” tracks the escape of a kidnapped man and his quest for freedom.

“We are happy to welcome ‘Greenbrier’ and Sony Studios to New Mexico,” said New Mexico State Film Office Director Nick Maniatis. “For years we’ve built up the film industry in New Mexico and strengthened our film incentives, now we’re seeing success after success for the film industry in our state.”

According to the NM Film Office, the production will employ approximately 300 New Mexico crew members, 16 New Mexico actors and approximately 450 New Mexico background talent.

This is the first project for Vince Gilligan — who created “Breaking Bad” and co-created the spin off “Better Call Saul” — after signing a three year deal with Sony Pictures Television in July.

The move to stay with Sony comes at a time when A-list showrunners are being courted by Netflix and other streaming services for production pacts.

Details on which characters will be returning from the TV series to the film have not been released.

The Emmy Award-winning series was set and filmed in Albuquerque for six years.

“Breaking Bad” is the story of Walter H. White, played by Bryan Cranston, a struggling high school chemistry teacher who is diagnosed with advanced lung cancer at the beginning of the series.

He turns to a life of crime, producing and selling methamphetamine with a former student, Jesse Pinkman, played by Aaron Paul, with the aim of securing his family’s financial future before he dies.

The series remains a cultural juggernaut — 10 years after it aired its first episode.

The New Mexico film industry and Sony Pictures Television have worked together on both “Breaking Bad” and “Better Call Saul.”

I don't believe it, but its possible of course. The only good news of this is, just because they make the movie, doesn't mean it needs to belong in your head-canon. I choose to believe The X-Files ended after the 5th Season and first movie. Boom. Done.

The BB story should officially end with "Felina."  BCS is some Great Value off-brand shit.

  • (Pukes). "Take my money."

I'm assuming this is an AMC TV movie, like the Walking Dead? Or for their subscription service? I can't imagine them betting on a theatre distribution at this point in the BB timeline.

Maybe it's Jesse's story? I'd pay $20 to see it, but I can't imagine many people would.

Bullshit, until I see the main actors or the Villigan post on their personal social media platforms about this I'm calling

    shenanigans.

  • I'll watch just about anything Vince Gilligan does. He's earned quite a bit of leeway with me.

Many major news outlets now reporting. Some saying it’ll be the Jesse post B.B. story.

  • I'm seeing confirmation on AV Club and other sources that is the Jesse story. I can't help but wonder if there is gonna be some manner of Jesse tease in the "Gene" scenes in BCS

  • Holy shit! If I could have one choice for a breaking bad film it would be a Jesse sequel

I could see it being a tv-movie follow-up on Jesse that tells his recovery with occasional flashbacks to Walt, but also sets up his involvement for Gene-era Better Call Saul.

I appreciate the fact that we're getting a two-hour movie rather than a whole series. I feel like Vince Gilligan will be able to tell a much better version of Jesse's post-BB story in that format rather than have it be dragged out for multiple 10-episode seasons.
