It does seem plausible that the boy fell and broke his neck on the rock accidental while playing. I would say that the girl posed his body as some kind of last rite, then ran away... but surely the detectives would have picked up on signs of her struggling to drag the body into the cave, right? So maybe someone else found the body and posed it afterwards? Amelia? Yep, definitely Amelia. Part of her satanic, time travelling, D&D black sabbath for sure.
It would be cool if the original "crime" wasn't actually a crime, but the spark that sends the community into chaos, with false accusations and machine-gunning garbage men and all.
I feel like Amelia is the classic early red herring in a show like this. Someone who raises suspicions for quite a while and then it becomes crystal clear why they weren't involved. But maybe Nicky Pizza decided it would be interesting to make that character actually be the guilty one.
I am wondering how similar to Christopher Nolan's "Memento" this is going to be.. I keep getting the feeling that Wayne has solved this case several times by the time he's in his 70's in 2015, and his mental condition is causing him to forget what he's already solved. Further, Is his mental condition a result of what he discovered about the case? Was it so horrific that his mind started looping as a sort of defense mechanism? I'm anxious to discover what it is he found in the woods that he has "withheld" from even himself.

I love that .. the idea that he has already solved this but has forgotten. That might help explain what ghost Amelia was talking about. It seemed to imply Wayne is covering something up ... is it the fact he solved it and doesn't remember and the solving it implicates Amelia or implicate Wayne not as the murderer obviously but implicates him in wrong doing involved in the investigation.
I wish Pizzolatto hadn’t mentioned the possible unreliable narrator aspect to this season. Already feeling S2 Mr Robot vibes. If the unreliable narrator is meant as a tool to illustrate Hays’s memory loss and not a way screwing with audience Im on board. Like Hays misremembers the past out of shame or embarrassment, or if he is culpable in a way only he knows and has spent rhe 25 years lying to himself. I just dont want Aron asking Is any of this real on a weekly basis

Im enjoying this season so far, but one thing I did sigh at in this episode was when the guy in the farm house mentioned the man with the “scar”. I was kinda like “another guy with a facial scar(s)”?! There’s a lot of similarities to S1 and that’s not a bad thing but if that turns out to be a major thing like it was in S1 I think that’d be a bit too far. Who knows tho, may lead to nothing.

-Listening to the podcast and evidence collection was nowhere near what it is now and there still is even problems today. I’m a forensic Biologist and I’ve worked cold cases and that’s a major factor when trying to assess what evidence should be analyzed.

I like the Amelia theory, but in a way I kind of hope they throw us a good swerve on that too.
I kind of have my own theory starting to develop. It needs work and its a little tinfoily. First of all, does anyone know if its indicated Julie is alive in the 2015 timeline? Because if she is it kind of breaks my theory, which is:
What if Julie killed her brother? Then in the 90s timeline, maybe Amelia doesn't want contradictions to her book, kills Julie. Or maybe alternatively, assuming Amelia isn't sinister, just investigates and figures Julie was the killer, but accidentally mortally wounds Julie. However, the way Amelia investigated could incriminate her, which leads to Hays covering it up to protect Amelia. Either way the 90s timeline ends with a Hays cover up.
I don't know. All I know is three episodes in, this season is already far more engaging than season 2 so far.

She's the one in the brown sedan. Her partner is the black guy with the scarred face...maybe a personal friend, family friend, security "fixer" for Hoyt or some such.
In the course of play, Will dies accidentally. Julie is distraught. Hoyt convinces her that she'll be blamed. The two of them, perhaps with the scar-faced partner, place the body. It's Julie's idea to place Will in his communion pose and leave the dolls so he will be found.
Julie spends the 80s being well taken care of by OCOC, living in fear of being discovered and blamed for her brother's death.

I was also thinking about Wayne's tie, how he wears a clip on becasue he is worried about getting choked in a fight, i feel like that is a random fact, it might come back later in the series, he gets in a fight and the clip-on saves him or he chokes someone else with their tie. Random thought...

I hope not, that tie thing bugged me. My father was a cop for 40 years starting in the 60's and uniformed and plain clothes were required to wear clip-on ties so they couldn't be grabbed in a scuffle since the day he started.
I move to just let A. Ron pronounce Fayetteville the way that it’s supposed to be pronounced, and not whatever aggressively stupid way that people are trying to get him to pronounce it. As a former resident of Fayetteville, GA- do better Arkansas.
Has it ever been brought up that the magazine clippings they found in the bedrooms that everybody here thinks maybe the brother and sister were passing back and forth through the peephole are very similar to the "ransom" note that was sent to the family. Is it possible that Julie, the daughter wrote the ransom note after getting the idea from cutting out the clippings from magazines? I don't know that this really has much weight to it or really mean that much but I haven't seen this brought up at all yet and thought it was somewhat obvious.
