Which show had the worst finale?

  • Orphan Black was bad from the start, so no surprise there. Bad show with an A+++ grade lead actress.

Deadwood and Rome come to mind, because even though they had great finale episodes they were cancelled prematurely and had to end in the middle of a story arc (Deadwood) or rush things (Rome). For the second and seventh best shows of all time that was disappointing.
Something really does feel off about Deadwood’s third season. I was planning on getting to HBO’s Rome at some point this year. If you don’t mind, how’s that hold up? I don’t really care if it has an ambiguous ending.
  • Boardwalk Empire's truncated final season was a letdown, especially since the previous season was some of the best television I've ever witnessed.

I liked Orphan Black for at least 2-3 seasons, but they just kept adding complexity to the conspiracy to the point where it didn't make any sense to me. I was actually relieved when they announced it was ending haha

I forgot about Orphan Black. I forgot to start it up again when one of the seasons started... But I guess maybe I shouldn't bother to finish it.

IIRC, the second season incrementally ramps up the pace to the extent that the last two episodes cover what they had planned to do across two whole seasons. It's still entertaining throughout, and of course they had the advantage of covering source material that was already written 2000 years ago. Not much ambiguity.

Either way, it's worth it just for James Purefoy's performance as Marc Antony.

If you like GoT earlier political intrigue, you’d probably like Rome. The end was rushed bc they ran out of money. But it was a good show.

Ill stand by Angel, Lost, and BSG. They weren’t great finales, but they weren’t the worst. They all fit thematically. So many shows ended worse than those.

Angel was leagues above the other two.

curious why everyone disliked the battlestar galactica finale? i thought it was a brilliant way to wrap it up.

  • Why is Dragonball Z on here. The fight with Maijin Buu was done. Vegeta got over Goku being a better fighter and then there’s an epilogue with their kids in the future at a fighting tournament. It’s a perfect ending for them

Pretty hilarious quote from GRRM on the ending of Lost.

I watched Lost in its entire run and I was fascinated, but you know, even as early as the second season and certainly the third season, I started saying, how the hell are they going to pull all of this together? If they pull all of this together, it's going to be the greatest show in the history of television, man. They better know how to pull all of this together! And then when I reached the end and they hadn't pulled it altogether, in fact, they left a big turd on my doorstep? I was pretty upset, you know.

Lindelof's response about getting in an online feud with GRRM was perfect.

I’ve just been informed George is working on his feud response. I’ll have it in FIVE YEARS!

From the man who hasn't even finished the books he's been promising and who therefore has NO END thus far to his story aside from what's been written (*not by him*) for the television show... *eyeroll*

    Lindelof's response is perfect.

Just want to clarify that GRRM's quote was from 2011, which I think makes it even better.

  • The latter two pre-reboot Star Treks, IMO. Voyager was a blah ending to a blah show (Time Travel and the Borg! What a twist!).

And Enterprise was actually doing some relatively solid things in its later two seasons, especially in the Manny Coto-run fourth season. And then Berman and Braga had to take the reins for the finale and cock it all up.

Beyond that, I haven't watched all that many shows all the way until the end. Seems that I usually give them up when they get bad. Otherwise, I'd have an opinion on the ends of Stargate: Atlantis, Scrubs, and Arrested Development (though I suppose that last one could come back yet again).

Oh my god was the finale to Enterprise bad. It’s the worst by default as it’s not an episode of the show but instead a next generation episode featuring a whole cast of characters who’ve never been on Enterprise and if you haven’t seen next generation you don’t know who they are. Braga called it “a love letter to fans”. Who sends a love letter telling them how much they love someone else. Also it’s another holodeck episode and set years after the last episode so the reconciliation between Tripp and T’Poll is undone and they’ve broken up and <spoiler> The death of Tripp is so pointless  </spoiler> And worst of all the founding of the federation that the whole series has been leading to we cut away to Riker and Troi walking off talking over it. You didn’t even give the cast of the show we’ve been watching for four seasons be in the final moments. Sorry for the long ramble but that ending was just insulting and Next Generation is my favourite Star Trek series so it hurts even more

  • Has anyone mentioned Seinfeld?

also before Roseanne became an asshole her show was really good but the finale was garbage having it all be a dream and Dan being dead.

Hasn't Roseanne always been an asshole? She became popular by being an asshole when being an asshole was cool.

True. Let me change that “before she became a blatant racist asshole”

She was always batshit crazy and it wasn't ever cool. But the era the first show was on wasn't so politicized, and she was known originally as a stand up comedian, so when she went out and did things like murder the National Anthem and grab her crotch, it was just seen as "wacky Roseanne" or "generally offensive" Roseanne rather than what she's aligned with now. We also didn't have Twitter so there was no platform to publicly let the world know how deeply racist and insane you were back then.
