So, this episode was a lot of setting up pieces around the board... hopefully for them to pay off with some exciting moves in the episode(s) to come.
Breaking Bad had its fair share of these too, but I’ve done more toe-tapping this (and last season) than I would’ve liked. BCS is still a very, very good show, and I still think it’s worthy of Breaking Bad, but I have to agree with Aron... if it had been 4 (or so) seasons as opposed to 6, it arguably could’ve reached that next level.

Comments like these make me feel like I'm watching a different show than other people. Episodes like this are exactly what I'm looking for with this show. The entire show is moving pieces around the bored for things that have already happened. I'm just not sure what "exciting" thing people are waiting for. This is what the show has always been. The only thing that didn't work for me is Mike "Jason Bourne" Ehrmantraut.
Kim continues to be awesome. And I love how they didn’t go the usual route after she told her sad story to the old man and have him capitulate.
On the downside, the self-indulgence is starting to wear on me. The ant scene at the beginning really tested my patience. In the early seasons I loved this show even more than Breaking Bad, but it’s been spinning its wheels A LOT in the last couple of seasons. Wrap it up, guys.
Can we all please stop comparison BCS and BB ? they're totally different shows . Watching breaking bad for me was and will probably be a unmatched experience. I still love BCS but it's just so different tonally.

I think it is difficult for a lot of people (including myself) to mentally separate the two when the show not only takes place in the same universe but has many of the same writers, staff, camera work, composition and characters within the show.
I think the two shows are actually very similar with the exception that element of danger is much more prevalent in the world of a chemistry teacher cooking meth rather than a con artist lawyer slowly devolving into corruption. Even the argument could be made that both shows are about men who's morality begins to corrode and they are in my opinion very similar in that way too.
Truth is the show's reputation largely rides on the coat tails of breaking bad and AMC knows this, they want to milk this thing for all it's worth for the advertising money. Breaking Bad did not have that luxury and struggled to get the support it needed for each additional season. Now since that stress has been lifted they have become a lot more lax about their story telling and it undoubtedly shows, regardless I think the shows are more similar than ways they are not and I don't think it's fair to be criticized for making the comparison in the first place.

They are different shows. It seems unfair to say “they are *totally* different shows” (emphasis added).
They are set in the same universe. They follow many of the same characters. The overall arc of both shows in the same. Showing how (through a series of self-destructive decisions made by) the main character (Walt / Jimmy) takes on a much more morally compromised alter ego (Saul / Heisenberg).
I do think it’s fair to point out that BCS doesn’t need / shouldn’t be just identically parallel to BB. That said, I don’t think every criticism of BCS that draws a comparison to BB can be reduced to “Hey, this isn’t like BB!” BB was a mix of plot, character development, and lots of style. At many points, BCS takes those same elements but tweaks the formula - lots more style, less plot, etc. I still really love the show, I’d just say the new formula that BCS roles out isn’t exactly 99.1% pure like it can be.
We had an entire cold open this week that was all to drive home (what is, I think) a fairly obvious theme. Last week, we had an entire cold open devoted to a wild and crazy ride by two knuckleheads we don’t know or care about in order to point out that Jimmy’s 50% deal is encouraging bad behavior in potential clients... essentially highlighting that same theme.
The point (I guess) is this - when I watch scripted drama, I’m only concerned with having (at least) one of the following 3 questions answered: who are these people? what are they going to do? what is going to happen to them. Style around answering those questions is great, but if there’s too much time devoted to style that doesn’t serve to answer those questions... it seems (as others have put it) indulgent.
Honestly this season feels like season 4 and 5 of BB in the best way. It feels like the writers are steering into the endgame. I've loved each episode, the only scene this season I didn't like was the Mike muggers scene cause he looks to old now.

No? They’re in the same universe, with the same characters and created and written by the same people. They’re going to be constantly compared.
Rhea Seehorn is knocking it out of the park with Kim giving mixed messages to show her internal battle with what to do and how to feel about Saul. Absolutely love the line, Well I'm happy for Saul, after Saul says he's had the most profitable day as Saul Goodman. But at the end of the episode they are laughing and throwing beer bottles off their balcony.
No Barry Corbin mention yet? Fans of Northern Exposure will know him as Maurice. He's aged a lot since then - I didn't know it was him until I heard his voice and verified on IMDb that it was him. I'm glad to see he's still working.
And yeah, the scene where Kim just lays it out to him stone cold with a mic drop at the end was everything.

And everything Kim. Rhea Seehorn an early favorite for the 2020 Baldies. Loved the silent final scene.
Can't wait to hear the official podcast talking for 40 minutes about the ant cold open (seriously, I really can't!).

Yes! That was the other one I was trying (and failing) to come up with on the pod. He's still so good!
