Tiger King documentary on Netflix

Even though this is another over-long docu-series.... it is super fascinating and very entertaining. It involves a guy who owns a zoo in Wynnewood Oklahoma which I have visited a few times. It's a really neat place actually (but that's a different discussion thread). The documentary involves murder, country music, polygamy, cults, meth, tigers, feeding body parts to animals, spoiled meat, and so much more. It's actually a little insane. :-p

I remember when I first went to the park and did the guided tour with Joe Exotic that he seemed a little unhinged probably....

I'm sucked in. My wife was just walking through the room and couldn't tear herself away.

We watched three episodes and everyone involved in this is wild and constantly lying. It doesn't suffer at all from the bloat of some of the other recent documentary series, I would watch multiple seasons of whatever this is.

We watched 3 episodes last night. Holy forking shirt balls - it's just more and more crazy dumped on top of a foundation of insanity and hubris.

All of the music videos absolutely killed me.

For anyone who's finished it, someone has been making a podcast for several years and added some other trivia and stuff they didn't cover in the show in this twitter thread:

Like the show some of it is really dark but it's good to see John got some teeth.

Fairly savage making a song about your rival killing her husband. The actress even sort of looks like her.

I went to the park for my first time a week or 2 after the gator enclosure fire. He raved during the guided tour about the crazy PETA protesters who snuck into the park at night and burned his gator enclosure and killed the Gators

As if this story can’t get anymore insane, did you know those were Michael Jackson’s gators?

How does this show get multiple treads? It’s not that worthy.

Are we doing spoilers here?  Because
he totally had his own gator enclosure burned, right?  And Carole totally killed her husband.

I can't bring myself to watch this. I already see too many dumb people, even when quarantined. And if animals are mistreated? Peace out.

Maybe read a show summary instead?  Tiger King is going to be a source of jokes/memes for a while.

I used to complain that Elmore Leonard's crime fiction had unbelievable characters.  After watching Tiger King, I feel I owe him an apology.

This was my main problem with the show. They don't linger on any animal abuse and the focus really is on the people for the most part but you know these animals are not living they way they're supposed to. The shot of them pulling the tiger cub away from the mom under the bars was pretty painful to watch. For whatever its worth, I have a huge sensitivity to mistreating animals but didn't have any issue finishing the show other than holding that much more against some of the people in it.

There really isn't much animal abuse going on. It's pretty much on par with how humans treat dogs, but that abuse is normalized.

Mistreatment of people on the other hand...

I mean there are parts where they say they can't feed them and Joe doesn't care, their cages are filled with mud, and they're splitting up the wal mart meat they normally use at like 1/10th the rate they normally give them. It's not exactly rosy conditions in the park during a lot of this.
