Holy sh*t that was an incredible hour of television! It was great that he wouldn't take the space blanket at first because it reminded him of Chuck, but then uses it and discards it to get away in the end.
Is there a parallel between this episode and “Four Days Out” in Breaking Bad?
Mike and Saul trapped in the desert vs. Walt and Jesse trapped in the desert?
I don’t know if there’s anything to be gleaned from this. It might just be the whole George Lucas thing - “It rhymes.”
Here's one parallel, and I bet there are others: Mike has the same overarching motive as Walt (at that moment in the BB timeline, anyway) - to provide for his family when he's gone.
The red pickup truck, when Mike shot the driver, didn't have anyone else inside it - do you think that means he was the last guy in on the plot to steal the bail money (in New Mexico, anyway) - so no one else other than Gus' people or the Salamancas will come looking for them?
Mike taking the gas cap means he was GPS tracking Saul.
That gave me a good chuckle when it happened. Of course he'd be tracking Saul. Also top that with Saul having absolutely no idea why Mike is taking his gas cap.
It seems like BCS is morphing into BB as the two timelines get closer. There is less dialogue (which I actually enjoy as well) and more action. I’ve really enjoyed this season.

*Incredible* episode. Thanks for bringing up the space blanket parallel - I didn't even make that connection but flashing back to him sitting in the roadway with it wrapped around him, I totally see it now. Ah, the writing on this show.... brilliant.
I found that episode to be really upsetting. Seeing Saul just getting thrown into such danger was disturbing. The one thing I can't square is after such a horrendous experience, it is hard for me to understand why he is so pleased to get back into the thick of it with Walt and Jesse. You'd imagine, he'd stay a million miles away. But....greed.
during the Mike n Saul montage at first i was like 'ummm Eminem huh? well that's an odd choice..'. then just grinned.. the tune 'My Name Is' samples is a damn good song. shout out Labi Siffre.

With a little luck we'll get some Malcom McLaren this season!

Also, in 4 Days Out... there was talk of drinking pee and well... that finally paid off in this episode of BCS!
This episode was phenomenal! Even though I know Jimmy and Mike will survive, I was on the edge of my seat watching their desert struggles. And more importantly, watching how the two finally fully connect for all that is to come.
What got to me the most was Mike's speech. I flashed back to BB, and Walt not needing to kill him but doing it anyway, and at that moment I never hated Walt more. Not gonna lie, my eyes watered.
Kim reveals to Lalo that she knows what's going on. So yes she is in the game. And this is one game Kim doesn't know how to play. I think this may tie back to why we don't see or hear about her in BB.
And the cousins! Not sure what it says about me but I was so happy to see them. And honestly - the Esteem was driven into a wash. Off a cliff would have been better.
Question - are the smugglers who attacked Jimmy there because of the phone call made at the warehouse? My first thought about it was that the call was to Lalo's bosses, letting them know he's taking quite a chunk of change for his own use, perhaps without permission? Is Lalo going rouge in the US?
One more thing - what was that Peter Gould tweet about? He said something like we better watch it live?
So I think you are meant to believe that the phone call at the beginning is to Gus's guys. But that is a red herring, because Mike knocks all of them off and he is firmly in camp Gus. So it might be a third party that the call at the beginning went to. It was very secretive.
I do wonder about how this will affect things between Mike and Jimmy. Jimmy needs to get that money to bail Lalo out, but that would not be what Mike would want as Lalo has been a pain in the tail for Gus.
As fare the Gould tweet. I think he is just worried about the Twitters, Reddits, and Instagrams of the world spoiling it through gifs if you don't watch it somewhat close to the live airing.
Along with "jump the shark" and "nuke the fridge" (both of which are generally negative comments), I propose we add a new phrase "drank the pee" to indicate when a show finally gets all of its characters fully committed to the premise.
Like, Jimmy was still trying to find a way to be a good guy while indulging his worst instincts, but by the end of the episode, he drank the pee and is fully Saul.
Kim did her best to balance plausible deniability with spousal privilege, but once she decided to see Lalo on her own, she drank the pee and is now in the game.
Okay, maybe this isn't such a hot metaphor. Maybe "trashed the Suzuki" is better.
I know it's old hat to complain about commercials on AMC but goddamn! When you have these slower paced episodes, it really makes the 15 commercial breaks standout!
Fantastic episode though. Great call @Killert0ast as I didn't make the space blanket connection either. I love this show so much. I am really interested in seeing the ramifications of Kim going to see Lalo. I have a feeling he won't be so touched that Saul's wife was concerned for his well being.
I'm not sure what 'hype' @Jim was talking about in the podcast.Except for the confusing tweet from Gould I read nothing outside of this forum. But I don't go looking for it either. I'm sad it lessened Jim's enjoyment of the episode because it was amazing.
Also not sure if they check the forum before podcasting. @Gan remembered about Mike and the gas cap - a fantastic connection!
Half the episode was Saul and Mike stumbling through the desert. I will say though, especially with this show/universe, I almost never say slow paced as a negative. I love it every time. I'll watch Mike dismantle a car for an entire episode.

Fair enough, it just had much more action than a typical episode of this show. I also never complain about the slowness of this show.
This week's podcast from Jim and Alexis seemed much shorter. Jim really burned through the recap. Maybe that was because it was less about character and more about going from scene to scene, so there is less to really discuss. I too am bummed that he didn't like it as much. I understand his point about it being less about character than some other pivotal episodes like Chicanery.
fucking giligang. Now I have to go through every episode of BB that takes place in the desert and see if there’s a space blanket or something else in the background like they did with the pants
When Jimmy said to Kim, “Remember that kid who got kicked out for having a joint”, that was a reference to Jesse, right? (I haven’t listened to the podcast so I don’t know if that was mentioned.)
I'd have to go back and watch Breaking Bad, but seems like way too much history for the relationship that Mike and Saul have in Breaking Bad.
And Mike is GPS tracking Saul, but he doesn't bring any dudes with an extra vehicle, I have more water in the trunk of my car than Mike brought with him into the desert, I guess everything is gonna be ok if he brings his gun. I guess all for a good story.....

Everytime I saw that bottle I chucked to myself.
