Content Idea: The Remake and the Original

I just rewatched "I am Legend". Knowing that it is based on a book that was already made into a movie (twice), I decided to watch the original 1964 movie "The Last Man on Earth".

Maybe this could make for an interesting podcast - watch the contemporary movie, and the original it was based on - then compare and contrast.

What are some other remakes and originals that could be analyzed? Ocean's 11. What else?

Scarface with Pacino was a remake - of the 1932 film.

@MrX Good looking out! I always forget that the original was a Howard Hughes film.

Okay, now that I think about it, this project is probably unworkable. Both Jim and Aron would have to watch both movies, then research both movies, then compile their thoughts about both movies, then compile their thoughts about the comparison / contrasting of both movies.

When all is said and done... you're looking at 20 man hours to end up with a 1 - 2 hour podcast. That's unworkable.

Personally, I'm hoping that Jim and Aron devote that time to the inevitable Mad Men rewatch. :D

How about just a Mad Men watch? They didn't podcast the first 4 seasons.

Ohhhhh. maybe they should do a watch party for (at least) the first season. It would only take 90-100 minutes for two episodes.  I would love to see their live takes/reactions to this masterpiece of a series.

I wasn’t sure if they did a movie and I didn’t feel like googling. I was being lazy...

It would be really cool if they did some of the East-West remakes like Seven Samurai and The Magnificent Seven
You could honestly do a whole podcast just on how Asian cinema has influenced Hollywood and vice versa.

  • Point Break, Totall Recall, 12 Angry Men. Im actually kidding on the first 2 but 12 angry men is truly a classic, but I haven’t seen the remake.

I used to teach a group dynamics class at a local college, I used "12 Angry Men" in a lesson that demonstrates how group consensus is met.
