Albums you’re most embarrassed that you owned

edited May 12 in General
Inspired by Dee, here’s a place where us “cool” music people can reveal the album(s) we’re most embarrassed to say we owned.

I’ll start with this gem I used to bump in fourth grade:

Being from SC I was (and still am) a big Hootie and the Blowfish fan. I was excited when Darius Rucker released this solo album. But I didn't realize it was a country record and that is near my least favorite genre of music. So not really embarrassed to own it but it stands out as the odd ball in my collection and NEVER gets played.

I mean growing up in the 90s and 00s almost everything in that 20 year period is embarrassing on some level but the MTV Return of the Rock CDs are very funny to me now, especially the artwork. I played the shit out of these while doing homework. I will say that live version of Mechanical Animals still slaps though. Marilyn Manson felt ridiculous at the time but looking back on it now I think he was just ahead of his time. This was also my introduction to Linkin Park which was huge for me as an early teen.

I mean, I wouldn't say I'm necessarily embarrassed, but I do own multiple South Park Mexican and R. Kelly albums.

I'm not sure if I'm embarrassed or overwhelmingly proud that I own this cd.

Mine is a tie between PM Dawn and JACKYL. Don’t think I’ll hurt any feelings with those 2 mentions and I legit owned them. PM on cassette. JACKYL one of my first CDs.  Remember when you had the BMG stamps with 1 cents per album for your first 13 albums? And you were like “haha fuckers!  I’m not even close to being 18!”

@Chinaski Pretty much! It’s the chipmunks doing covers of country songs - The Gambler, Thank God I’m A Country Boy, etc.

Edit: My favourite was the Eddie Rabbitt song I Love A Rainy Night.

At the time I listened to my SWV cd concerned that my grunge-y friends would pass judgment. Now I fully believe that you can transition from Aero Zeppelin to Weak with no shame involved. WITH NO SHAME INVOLVED!

I'm not a big music shame guy, but I will admit that it feels weird to say that I got toooooootally rooked when I traded my copy of 12 Inches of Snow for a Social Distortion cd. The moral of the story is: Infomer > Bad Luck.

I’m actually kind of bummed I don’t have this one anymore.

There's no shame in liking Britney!  *counts her Britney CD's*

  • Someone hacked my iTunes library and deposited more than one Glee soundtrack in there.

I can't say I'm horrified by it, but I have more Moby than I care to acknowledge. I also had a Hootie album that I could not give away 20 years ago, but I tossed it.

Nah wrestling entrance themes are awesome, especially more modern ones... some of them are absolute bangers.  Great for working out.

I have Daughtry in my library but it got there through a library trade with a friend so I claim no responsibility.

I don’t have an album but I’m embarrassed that I fell for that five CDs for a penny deal or whatever it was where they let you pick out X amount of CDs for basically nothing but then you were on the hook for like 20 more at full price

The ones I joined multiple times were 8 for 1 at full price. You just had to be careful to send back the notification you didn’t want the album of the month.

A little older than that. It does have no less than six 2 Live Crew tracks. I mean, is anyone surprised that Strip Club Classics is basically a 2 Live Crew greatest hits album? And no @Chinaski, I don't own it. A fact which makes me wildly embarrassed. They have a used copy on Amazon for 13 bucks. I will rectify the situation asap. I will be sure to handle the used copy of Strip Club Classics with gloves. That shit is gonna be gross.
