Reheating The Leftovers (thanks Garthgou81)

edited December 2020 in Other TV
So I got a buddy of mine from work to listen to the Fargo season 4 coverage because I kept talking it up. He's never really listened to podcasts but absolutely loved the guys' coverage. I've been trying to talk him into watching The Leftovers for a while now and I said the same guys did an amazing podcast on that series and he finally bit and said he was going to start tonight.

While I don't have a ton of free time right now, I said fuck it and am essentially going to keep up with his watching schedule and relisten to the podcasts again. I watched the 1st episode tonight and as soon as that piano music hits it all comes rushing back. This pilot episode was so damn compelling, I don't know how anybody could watch the 1st episode and not want to find out what the fuck was going on.

I didn't find out about The Leftovers until shortly after the 3rd season ended which was around the time I found Bald Move from their GOT coverage. I didn't know a single person personally that had watched the show and I've pushed it on a lot of people without anybody actually giving it a try. I'm beyond excited to finally have somebody to talk to about this series.

I've been thinking about jumping on a similar rewatch. 30 episodes are extremely do-able.

  • It's definitely a hard sell to people. But when they do watch, and then enjoy it, *chef's kiss*.

The first episode doesn't do it many favors when its ending is punctuated by dog murder.

I did a re-watch over the summer and it was as good as the first time.
  • ARon mentioned in a Lunch or OTC recently he was thinking about doing a rewatch. As am I! I missed out on their coverage the first time around, so am looking forward to hopefully finding some time in early 2021 to do it up!

That was fun @Chinaski! I was really happy that so many people wanted to experience that show again. There has been a lot of Leftovers talk again recently and I have also considered another rewatch!

As much as I love their coverage of so many different shows, their Leftovers coverage is easily my favorite. Their religious knowledge really has its time to shine and the amount of things that went over my head that they picked up on and talked about was incredible. Highly recommend a rewatch and listen along with the podcast. When I watched it for the first time I forced myself to watch 1 or 2 at a time so that way I could listen to their coverage in-between. It's Bald Move at its highest in my opinion.

I was so late to the party because of that first episode. After that ending I said hell no. Finally went back two years ago (minus the first episode) and beyond happy I did. What a great show and an equally great podcast.

Wish i could join in the rewatch but my holiday plan is a rewatch and a podcast listen to the LoTR trilogy. Finding the time will be a wee bit tricky but damn it I will find a way.

Doing a rewatch of Lord of the Rings is high on my priority list as well. Plus for me anyways, it just released on 4k disk and I bought both the LOTR and The Hobbit in 4k and can't wait to experience those movies again. More LOTR over The Hobbit but The Hobbit wasn't a bad series.

That first season is tough. Partly because it seemed like grim-dark for grim-dark's sake. That put me off (as someone who likes dark material, it was a lot even for me.) They managed to thread the needle with the tone, writing, and acting, however. Such a great series.

This thread should have totally been called "Reheating the Leftovers" though.

This is amazing and I can't believe I fucked up the opportunity... Fuck it I'm changing the name and thanking you in the title.

While the 1st season is especially dreary and dark, it's compelling as hell. My buddy I have watching it is absolutely loving it and can't stop watching it. He's got a wife and kid with minimal spare time but has still managed to knock out season 1 in under a week, and he's listening to all the podcasts between episodes as well.

  • I feel like I should try the podcast because I thought the first season was great TV, the other two not so much.

This is so damn true in today's world. There's just so much good TV that it's impossible to keep up. But I 100% have a list of about 30 shows I have an interest in watching. But I always end up prioritizing new shows because it's way easier to commit to a 1 or 2 season show vs Lost that has 121 episodes.
