Super Smash Bros Ultimate and Nintendo Switch

http://www.ign.com/videos/2018/06/19/every-super-smash-bros-ultimate-character-trailer

So after watching this I am seriously debating getting a Nintendo Switch! Nostalgia kicked in last year and I bought a Gamecube since I used to love playing Super Smash Bros, Mario Kart Double Dash, Skies of Arcadia Legends and so many more.

Anyone got a Switch and how do you like it?

Also, what is everyone's favorite Smash Bros character? I always loved playing as Samus! The new one has my inner 8 year old happy with characters like Duck Hunt, Kid Icarus and I had to laugh at the inclusion of the Wii Fit Trainer :p

The Switch is great. We bought a Wii years ago and sold it after a few months of not playing it. With the Switch though, you get your money's worth in gameplay on Zelda: Breath of the Wild alone. It's well over 100 hours of game play exploring the world, solving puzzles, completing quests, etc. And this is all coming from someone who didn't care about or really play the Zelda series as a kid. I just love the massive open world they built and the incredibly realistic physics and interactive environment in it.

The open world Mario game is cool. My wife played that a ton and I watched. And the MarioKart Deluxe racing game was great. One of the biggest appeals to Nintendo and the Switch are all of the indie artist games. It gets more than any other platform, and many of them are just beautiful to look at. I cannot wait for all of the games that they announced at E3 to come out this fall.

The downside to the system itself is that it doesn't have any streaming apps, like Netflix, Vudu and all of that. It does weirdly have Hulu, but that's it. They have said that they are trying to get the major companies to develop apps for the Switch platform.

Although I'm not sure when I will buy them or have time to play them, two of the big ones I'm anticipating are Megaman 11 and Starlink: Battle for Atlas (with a Switch exclusive Starfox character). Starlink is an open world spaceship game where you can fly down to different planets to achieve objects, battle,  and explore. And your spaceship can be changed, moded and customized on the fly using a physical toy ship on your controller. You can move your boosters around, move the guns both to one side of the the ship, add a new gun or type of wing physically and it does the same instantly in the game. This adds to the strategy in the specific objective you're going for.

My 4 year old daughter saw the Pokemon: Let's Go announcement and really seems to want that. I assume it's mostly because of the pokeball controller you get to use.

If you enjoy big title ports, Switch does have lots of ports like the Dark Souls remastered, Doom, Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, etc. There are a bunch of other big ports coming soon.

That E3 gameplay is what sold me. The Starfox exclusive ship is the icing on top.
  • Yeah, it may be a certainty now to get the Switch!

The Switch is amazing and you should get it, especially with the first party games coming out later this year (Mario Party and Smash Bros.)

As far as Smash characters, I've always been a Link guy, but I really liked Pac Man in SSB4.
