I was super excited about this one. And now we get the whole "creative differences" line. I always want to know what the real reason is, and it is hard to imagine not letting Boyle just do his thing to keep him involved in the 25th Bond movie and the last one involving Craig.
I'd throw a ton of money Christopher Nolan if I were them, after watching the snow scenes in Inception and the action in the Dark Knight trilogy, I'd love to see him do a Bond film.
That sucks, but I think I was more surprised when he was hired in the first place. He would make a great Bond film, but it probably wouldn't follow the formula the way they would want him to.
He's probably my favorite director and not being a Bond fan I'm fine with him doing something else. I'm kidding though! That sucks for Bond fans. He's so good.

No, I totally get that mindset. When Nolan took over the Bat-series, as happy as I was to have amazing Batman movies by one of my top three directors, I didn't want him to be swallowed up by the Hollywood blockbuster machine. I wanted him to still do movies he was passionate about. I have been less than interested in the stuff Nolan has done since the end of of Dark Knight Rises (Interstellar and Dunkirk), so I guess in my mind that sort of happened regardless. Either that or his passions just aren't aligning with my own right now. Oh well, I digress...
I’m a huge Bond fan and this announcement really isn’t that big of a surprise to me. This being Daniel Craig’s final outing in the role, and with Eon having decided that all of his films are connected in a unified story, it makes sense to not go off on a one-off tangent for the final installment. I’m sure Danny Boyle’s story idea was great (it was good enough to get him in in the first place, Eon has stated he was hired based on his spec script) but we know that it wasn’t going to be connected to the previous four films from press releases. Say what you will about the success or failure of the Craig films but let them finish the experiment, give it the wrap up ending they’re heading for and then give Boyle the reigns. I personally prefer the one-off style of the majority of the franchise but I want to see where they’re going with this, can they give it a satisfying ending? And to be completely honest I think Bond is better done when handled by craftsmen rather than auteurs. Granted the Craig films are amongst the most beautiful and well shot of the series but they also feel like their own thing within the scope of Bond, I’d love to see them return to a competent but not flashy director for future installments (similar to what Mission Impossible did once they brought JJ Abrams and his acolytes aboard).
I’m more upset about this. I was really hoping it would happen.
Nope, there is a 0% chance of Idris Elba being James Bond on film. This month is actually the 10th anniversary of the rumor that he would be Bond (https://www.vox.com/platform/amp/2018/8/10/17674666/idris-elba-james-bond-casting-history-daniel-craig). And don’t get me wrong, he would have been a great Bond a decade ago if Daniel Craig hadn’t been in the middle of his contract. Unfortunately Elba is 45 right now (46 in two weeks) and with the turnaround on Bond films even if Craig dropped out of Bond 25 today the earliest they’d get it out would be when Elba was 48ish. I love Roger Moore, he is *my* Bond, but I don’t want to see another geriatric James Bond, the character plays best in the 30-45 range and I’d like to see the next actor to take on the role be able to play it for more than one film before being aged out and replaced.

So if we're going for a younger up-and-coming British actor ... perhaps Daniel Kaluuya? Or Aidan Turner for the Poldark fans out there...

Oh man, Daniel Kaluuya would be an amazing choice! Great pick! I don’t know Aidan Turner’s work but I’ll check him out. I’m so tired of everyone saying Hiddleston, Hardy, or Cavill. Those are all boring picks to me, I adore Bond and I want them to take reasonable risks and casting is a perfect place to work outside of the norm with the potential for huge payback. The two most left field picks I’ve heard recently are Riz Ahmed and Gillian Anderson, and while I don’t think either is quite right I love that names like theirs are in the mix. My only stipulations, as a die hard, are that the accent and age range must be right, so no matter how big my crush is on him Josh Brolin can never be Bond (I still love you Josh, don’t hold it against me!).

Yea Kaluuya would be awesome. He can do the quiet smolder thing and also could bring the necessary cheeky humor.
Gillian Anderson would be great but if Idris is too old she's 5 years older. I think Emily Blunt would make an kick ass female-Bond.

Anderson is for sure too old, but I love her name being tossed around for the same reason I love Elba’s name being in the mix: it shows that the net they’re casting is wide and it prepares some of the less open-minded (of which there are many in the older generations of Bond fandom) to get used to the idea that it isn’t 1962 anymore.
I think Emily Blunt is amazing, and would be a great Bond, my only reservation with her is that she’s already a household name (or very near one anyway) and I worry about an actor being bigger than the franchise. That said she is brilliant and would play so perfectly into what a 21st century Bond needs to be! And in my dream world in which Dennis Villeneuve directs a Bond after he finishes Dune it’d be a perfect re-pairing of their talents.
Plus she’s half responsible for what might be my favorite moment on the internet: https://youtu.be/iG940q9Jva0 (Sorry, I don’t know how to embed a video in the forum on my phone).
You can all stop debating now. Edgar Wright is apparently the front runner to take over directing, which means Simon Pegg must be the new James Bond.
I think you meant Nick Frost ... it's time for Fat Bond!
Also re: Edgar Wright, I'm surprised that he'd jump into a big franchise like Bond after his experience w/ Ant Man - especially since Boyle left for "creative differences."
I am so excited to have Cary Fukunaga at the helm of Bond 25! I think he’s a great pick, he’s got a fresh sensibility and can do things that are cutting edge without feeling showy or too modern (something Boyle definitely could not do). TD season 1 looks amazing and I have no doubt that Fukunaga will bring the same level of quality to Bond. I think this will be an exciting note for Craig to wrap up his tenure with!

But here is the new front runner lol:
