Happy to see Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Bradley Whitford, Chris Sullivan, and Who Do You Think You Are? in this list of nominees - all very well deserving of the win!

  • Damn Dorff got snubbed, but limited series is pretty stacked. Rhea Seehorn getting passed over for all of those legacy Game of Thrones noms is a joke though.

Have you seen When They See Us?  I watched that not long ago and I think picking the Limited Series is easily the hardest decision.  Personally for me it's between Chernobyl or When They See Us but I have yet to watch Escape at Dannemora which I've heard is also amazing.

And yes Stephen Dorff got screwed big time.  My only question regarding him is maybe he didn't qualify for supporting actor because he had a role that was on screen as much as he was.  I don't know the Emmy process and what classifies as supporting or lead but I don't think he could make it into the lead actor category but he damn well should have made it into the supporting actor category if he was eligible.

The Best Comedy Series category is way better than Drama this year IMO - I think I enjoyed Barry, Fleabag, Russian Doll, The Good Place all more than any of the nominated dramas (Succession was maybe my favorite out of the Dramas). Veep was good too, and I need to watch Schitts Creek. Limited Series is stronger too ... I guess that's the way TV is trending.

It's not what critics think - nominations and awards are decided by members of the Academy of Television Arts and Scienes, so a bunch of industry insiders - producers, directors, actors, etc. The Emmys would be way better if critics got to decide the nominees, because I'm guessing most Emmy voters have not seen and thought about nearly as much tv as critics.

  • Game of Throne on any list here is such a joke. It is amazing there is any good or great new programing at all with this sort of demented groupthink so prevalent.

Someone introduce Stephen Dorff to The Leftovers over in the WTF section, you've been screwed. Don't worry man, I'm sure The Baldies will have your back.

Totally.  Dorff got royally fucked.  I'd choose him over Skarsgard.

Thank you for calling this out.  I naturally just wrote critics but in all honesty I had no clue who truly voted on these things so I thank you for bringing that up.

While I understand the overall feeling of the final season of Game of Thrones is very split, you can't argue with the idea that a lot of actors/actresses in the series put in some damn fine work regardless of the script and writing.  I was surprised to see Alfie Allen in there for supporting actor but if I'm not mistaken the people that are nominated are nominated based on a specific episode aren't they?

Game of Thrones absolutely deserved its nominations. Game of Thrones was was the best thing TV has ever done in pretty much every category except unfortunately the writing.

This makes me realise how much TV I didn’t watch or gave up on in the last year or so.

How is Laverne Cox a guest actress in OITNB? She’s been in it since day one.

Alfie Allen as best supporting actor is a joke. However, I’m super stoked for Gwendoline Christie getting a nom. I think I’m pulling for her to win the damn thing actually.

Almost all of these nominations for Game of Thrones are laughable. Why are there FOUR of them nominated for Supporting Actress???

For fucks sake, watch another show. This is what it must have felt like that year that Return of the King hijacked the Oscars.

The actors getting nominations for Game of Thrones are all talented people, worthy of an award. But none of them (except maybe Christie) were given anything remotely award-worthy to do this season.

If sipping wine and looking moody is "outstanding acting", I should have submitted a video of myself  watching the season.

  • Although they clearly aren't as prestigious as the Baldies, the Emmys are on this Sunday.  The only categories I have strong feelings for are...

Mahershala Ali winning best actor in a limited series
Chernobyl winning best limited series (When They See Us is going to win though)
Peter Dinklage or Nikolaj Coster-Waldau winning best supporting actor in a drama series
Stellan Skarsgard winning best supporting actor in a limited series

I feel like the limited series categories are much more competitive than the drama category.  I have a feeling we'll be seeing a lot of Game of Thrones wins in the Drama category which I'm perfectly fine with.  I was one of the few that didn't have many problems with season 8

For what it's worth, we just started watching Schitts Creek after the nomination came out and we're really enjoying it. It's more old school (as you might guess given the cast), but it's really charming. Catherine O'Hara is really fun. I have no idea what her accent is (which is on purpose), but that shit cracks me up. Just to warn if you jump in, the pilot isn't the best and it takes a couple of episodes to start finding its footing/rein in the characters, but it's worth it. Easy binge too. They just fly right by. I also like that the dude who plays Levy and O'Hara's son is actually Levy's son. They produce the show together as well. I won't lie, I'm a little surprised that Levy getting Emmy attention (O'Hara makes a little more sense), but I do really like the show and actually find that a little refreshing that they're appreciating a more old school vibed show.

You're 100% right about comedy vs. drama. That comedy field is STACKED! I can't imagine any outcome that would make me unhappy. I guess that as much as I liked Russian Doll and am really enjoying Schitts Creek I find them to be a tier below The Good Place, Maisel, Barry, Veep, and Fleabag. I guess I'm pulling for The Good Place ultimately, but that category is insane. I wonder if it goes to Veep as a send off.

One thought I have about multiple category nominations for a single show is they have to rein that shit in. I don't think it should be a "rule" per say that you can only have one nomination per show per category, but this shit is out of control. It just feels lazy to me. With all of the amazing performances on all of these shows you really can't find better supporting performances than to go 4 deep on GoT for best female supporting? 6 of the 13 best supporting drama roles in ALL of TV came from Game of Thrones? Really?
