Iconic Sport Moments in the 21st century
So yesterday, while watching this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jlmxHvOWKB0 (side note, I remember actually watching this when it initially aired on December 31st, 1999) it got me thinking about how if they updated or did something like this for all of the 2000's, what would be the plays or clips that they would have to include. So, I'll pose this to the baldmove community, what are the iconic sports moments of the 21st century? Without trying to be biased to any particular teams or players, here's what I've come up with so far:
MLB
- Red Sox winning in 2004
- White sox winning in 2005
- Cubs winning in 2016
- Bonds becomes HR king
- Maybe something with Mike Trout
NBA
- LeBron's block
- Possibly as well, Kyrie hitting the 3 to clinch the title for Cleveland
- Miami signs Wade/Bosh/LeBron and their celebration
- Kawhi's shot to beat Philly (and maybe this represents Toronto winning it's 1st NBA championship)
- Would need something with Steph Curry, probably making an insane long distance 3 pointer or a montage of him doing that
- Kobe, maybe flashing him getting 81 against Toronto
- Maybe something with either Dirk or KG winning a championship
- Something with Duncan and the Spurs
NHL
- Ray Bourque raises the Stanley Cup
- Something with Crosby and Ovechkin winning championships
- Blues win the Cup for 1st time
NFL
- Brady/Patriots winning (probably the shot of their first win with Brady having his hands on his head)
- Malcolm Butler's interception in the superbowl?
- Tyree's helmet catch
- Santonio Holmes catch in the superbowl
- Beckham's catch against Dallas
- Philly special
Soccer
- Women's US team winning something
(i'm not a big soccer follower, so can't really speak to these moments)
Tennis
- Combination of Nadal/Federer/Djokovic
- Serena Williams
UFC
- McGregor or Brock Lesnar maybe
(once again, don't really follow UFC)
Boxing
- Floyd
(once again, don't really follow boxing)
College Football
- Rose Bowl- Texas vs. USC, Vince Young
- Nick Saban (with how successful he's been)
(once again, don't really follow college football that closely)
College Basketball
- #1 Virginia loses to a 16th seed, coupled with Virginia winning the next year
(once again, don't really follow college basketball close enough)
Olympics
(I'm sure there are plenty of moments, but I rarely pay attention here)
Golf/NASCAR
(really don't follow to know of any iconic moments, especially since Tiger was already shown in the 1990s for Golf)
I'm sure i'm missing plenty of moments from sports, so hopefully others will chime in. The point was mostly to have a list of the iconic plays and not just "hey, my team has a good player or won their X amount of championship, they should be included". Looking for more like legendary players or a moment that is still talked about or remembered by everyone that watched it or went viral.
