What's Making Your Day Today?

I found and remembered the password to my old LiveJournal.  I'm reading through the day-to-day of the relationship I was in at the time, and its demise and everything that led up to it.....  what's making my day is that I'm feeling thankful that I can look back on it now and realize that 14 years later, I'm a much stronger and happier person and that I don't miss him even a single bit.

(Still, some of these entries have made me sigh a little.)

Just yesterday I found an old file on my computer with a spreadsheet of the jobs I applied to during the 2014-2015 school year... all 120 of them (I got something like a total of 6 or 7 interviews). It was a stressful time. It made me thankful for my job now.

  • My "On This Day" thing in Facebook reminded me that 8 years ago I managed to work "go wank over some hornets" into a comment which made me giggle a little. This is a bit of a double edged sword though because it also reminds me that I was so much cooler 8 years ago.

This is my favorite time of year and this is my home for tonight:

Opening weekend bow season and it’s dark of the moon. The clouds went away and the stargazing is primo. Enough to see the Milky Way. Been seeing shooting stars all night but got to see a really huge one.

Spending time with my Dad who is getting up there in age. Avoiding all politics and religion so we can keep this enjoyable.  He’s got a big King Koil queen in his tent I got him for Father’s Day 2 years ago that he keeps telling me is awesome. I’m in my tent enjoying my own. Got Rye whiskey in a foam cup. We listened to the Astros win on an app on my phone.  A nice breeze on this high hill. I can here big breezes coming from the woods 500 yards east of me. Then I wait about 20 seconds and it runs through my tent.  Moments like these are really nice.

I fixed it! I blame the whiskey!

  • I was fortunate to be able to purchase a home just over a year ago. It was undervalued (due to the motivated sellers), and it didn't *need* a bunch of work, but I still wanted to make it my own so... yeah. I just finished this past week. Here are a couple of before/after (or after/before) of the basement.pictures of the basement...

And yes, that's a retro-pie arcade in the corner...

  • I know most (or at least many) here aren’t on board with the religious aspect of this, but I’d imagine we can agree that the world would be a much better place if we all had 1/2 of the grace and love that this young man has in him...

For real. How great would it have been if Amber Guyger said "You know, injustice of this kind has gone on for too long. As a symbol of the world heading in the right direction, I request to be handed the maximum sentence instead of less than countless non-violent drug offenders receive."?

This old guy on my town's daily jail report:
The smile says it all. "Only took you chumps the better part of a century to catch me driving drunk. I've been doing this since you clowns were wearing those stupid hats, sonny boy."

Give us the deets! Where in England are you going? Is it your first time crossing the Atlantic? How long do you plan on being there?

I’m excited for you. My first time in Europe was earlier this year and I had such a good time. I know it’s gonna be an awesome experience for you too.

Thanks!  It'll be my first time in the UK and overseas.  I've been out of the country, but only to Canada.   I'm going for 2 weeks which includes flight time, so about 10 days actually in England.  So far my plan is London ->  Wells (maybe - it's my great-grandfather's family's name on mom's side & I have ancestors buried there, so it might be kind of interesting to see) -> Bath -> the Cotswolds (probably Stow-on-the-Wold) -> somewhere in the Dales -> York -> back to London & fly home.  This agenda might change.  I'd love to be able to see little villages in between so that I can see gravesites of older x-times- great-grandparents but I would be traveling by train or bus and on a tight schedule, so...  I'm very excited though.

Any Brits or others who have advice to offer, it's very welcome and thank you!

At first I debated which section this belonged in, but then I thought a 4.5 earthquake in my hood with zero damage or injuries is a good thing.

But it being my first, I feel a bit spooked.

I read about that this morning.  Pleasant Hill of all areas - kind of odd.  I'm glad there was no damage to my old stomping grounds!

This was your first, though?  Are you not originally from Cali?

I’m from NY though I lived in AZ for a bit before Cali. It was easier to deal with Haboobs.

Just heard there was a 4.8 in Hollister.

Edit: maybe I should have picked the other thread.

  • Had my interview for a promotion for country manager. Got some real positive feedback. Hoping to find out if I got the role in the next week or so. Fingers crossed from my Bald Move friends. Would be a huge promotion.

Wishing you much success. And sort of hoping it’s my country you’re promoted to. We need a good manager!

After what's been a hard couple of weeks for various reasons (which is why I haven't been around quite as often as normal lately), I have the house to myself, a tall Yeti cup of creamy coffee, and some time to just catch up and enjoy 'my stories'.  Things are getting better slowly but surely but in the meantime, I'm enjoying this moment.
