  • They obviously aren't in to the show and I'd rather they not cover a show they don't enjoy.

But at the end of the day do you want them covering something they aren't that passionate about? I've heard those podcasts before (The X-Files comes to mind, not that they didn't want to do it, but it was a disappointing show and you could tell), they aren't super fun.
  • Well, they're still doing Westworld AFAIK.  2 seasons was enough of that for me.

We're supposed to be thinking that Ewan is behind the unbuyable Weasel accusations, right?

Love succession and I think it's the best show on TV right now , but there are some inconsistencies , Ewan is one of them. I recall him last season refusing to vote against Logan in the no confidence vote , I assume it was out of duty to family and not wanting to backstab him which is why I find it difficult to believe he's been behind the weasel all along .

I am also confused by some of the time jump that happens off screen , between episodes . Kendall seems to be a different person with each new episode.
Finally have no idea why Logan would bring in an outsider for the CEO job when all what he's been saying for two seasons is he wants one of his kids to take over.
  • 1. Ewan may be bellying up to the bar, but you’re probably right.

    2. I think KendalL starts to revert to his more normal F-ed up self the further he gets from his trauma, and we’ve seen one instance where he’s recrushed by Logan when he’s reminded of his place.

    3. I think we’re underestimating Logan here.  This may be a rope a dope, and he may be as aware of the temporary tactic as Shiv is - he just needs to get through this rough patch after which he can reassert control.

We still have a couple episodes to go. I have feeling more will be revealed that may make some of Logan’s behavior make more sense. Or we could just be left in the dark as much as the kids are. We could just be seeing Logan flounder in his waning years and unsure of the right next move.

Personally I think this is a trial by fire so he can see how each contender reacts to adversity and who can deal with it. I do like that the first season focused on Kendall where this season is all about Shiv. It’d be fun to watch Logan stomp each of his kids in their own respective season only to see them come together in some way for a final season.

This episode we saw how effective they could be as they rope-a-dope’d Rhea when working together. Unfortunately they just can never seem to do that to dad because of all their own histories with him.

I do agree that I don’t quite get the Kendall portrayal this episode. At first I thought he was still getting high and that accounted for his behavior. Or maybe we are meant to understand that his new girlfriend is his new drug/distraction and once he kicks her away he is back to the old, sad, puppy dog Kendall.

Who’s the blood sacrifice? What the hell does that even mean? And what did Roman just get them into? I really don’t know where they’re going with it but this is starting to look like it’s building to some real calamity.

I think he means he's going to have Kendall take the fall for the cruise scandal.

And yea wtf is going on with the Roman subplot?
  • I assume the Roman stuff is setting something up to drive next season, but why would Kendall be the fall guy? It’s got to be Greg or maybe Tom. Greg still pocketed a few documents and I got the impression when Logan told him to gtfo that he might have been ready to use them.

I first thought of Tom, but he's not actually "blood" since he married into the family.  I'm thinking Greg is going to get torched.

Man, what a nail biter of an episode.
  • Ok -we've talked about suspension of disbelief before, but unless Wambsgans totally froze in the hearing and completely forgot any of his lines, the fact that everyone referred to Lester as Mo in the subpoenad emails shouldn't have come as a shock to anyone and should have been foreseen.

I also thought Tom. Blood-in-law. I easily see Shiv doing nothing to stop it. Footstool Greg could help it happen. And honestly I’d be ok with it. But what was all that talk about “if only I had time to write a book” and “I have diaries.” I feel that’s important somehow.
  • I think Logan is going to try to sacrifice Kendall but Shiv and Kendall team up to betray Logan.
  • Tom or Greg aren't big enough. I think he thinks Kendall would be a big enough sacrifice to sway the shareholders.

It’s important because Bill could sense he was going be the sacrificial lamb and wanted to remind Logan that he has written documents. It’s what makes Logan realize that he needs to have someone higher to fall on that sword. That’s how I understood it anyway.

I like how we were made to think Bill was going to be a clueless patsy and he subtly shut that shit down all while smiling.

A podcast I listen to mentioned it and iterated my thoughts: It is always endlessly entertaining to see the Roys and co think they have all the power in the world because of the money in the world. But when it comes to it they are continually ousted by people who have less money but manage to out think them. This was a perfect example.

Also I can't remember where I have seen that actor who plays Bill before, but I love him.

The show is really good about making the audience forget that a lot of characters outside of the family are veteran Fortune 500 level executives. Just when you're disarmed, they hit you with the moves that remind you why they made it as high as they did.

Is anyone else rooting for a flash forward at some point showing Greg as a ruthless, calculating CEO? Complete with Tom as his footstool?

  • Did Bill have an airgapped computer in the scene when he didn’t want to give Tom anything with his handwriting on it?  Yeah, that guy wasn’t born yesterday waiting for the Roy’s to screw him.
  • "You gotta be a killer"

Thanks for the advice, dad. Damn.

Also - the imagery of that fucking imperial destroyer looking yacht towering over the fishing boat was quite the image.

    Great season!

  • I see a lot of Reddit posts about Logan planning this to go either way for Kendall to show he was capable of taking over or to take the fall. But there's no way a COO who was complicit in a coverup is going to be the CEO in charge of cleaning it up, right?

I 100% read that as Logan testing Kendall and whether he can be the "killer" his dad said that he wasn't.  You see tiniest of mouth movements moving towards a smirk after that press conference on Logan and I think 100% he was testing Kendall with this and Kendall essentially was either going to pass and throw him under the bus or fail and take the fall for it all.  I think you are correct although I have no idea who else could really take the company over.

My only question would be, how did Logan know about Greg keeping those documents thus Kendall having the proof he claimed he did? In that scenario it would've almost had to be planned between the 3 of them to throw Logan under the bus. Or Greg just told Kendall before the press conference and Kendall decided to be the "killer" his dad said he couldn't be. But if the latter, I don't see how Logan could've planned it.

When Logan initially said it had to be him to take the fall, the family said that the shareholders wouldn’t stand for it especially with Rhea on her way out. We know one big shareholder wanted Logan to take the fall, but they didn’t know about Rhea and the other shareholders wouldn’t like the chaos from that lack of clear Succession.

Plan A was the sovereign wealth money, plan B was slimy-Stewy, plan C was Kendall taking the fall like a whipped dog, plan D was Kendal growing a set and taking Logan out in a way that the shareholders would support (demand really).

The COO, who wasn’t on the job when the Cruise horrors were going on, and who steps up and blows the whistle on his own family, even belatedly, might have a chance at interim CEO. Gerri has been counsel for too long not to be tainted. Even ousted, Logan controls enough shares that it would be easier to install a CEO with his support than without it.

Shiv turned out not to be a killer. Roman would be ahead of her at this point.

I thought that was just pro-forma theater, like the other time Logan asked for opinions about going after Pierce in order to suss out opposition. I read it as a show of support for Logan was mandatory.

That kiss. So Godfather! And then Kendall for the kill. Loved it. And confident the smile means Logan agrees. It’s gonna be a long wait for next season.

I can see it that way also, but it’s true that investors in a public company wouldn’t be thrilled to have the brand-new CEO resign and then the founder/chairman and former CEO also bail when there isn’t really a chain of succession besides maybe Gerri who as counsel would also be implicated in the scandal. I think the board would have to bring in an outsider to try to turn things around, and that’s what Logan is trying to avoid.

The board may still need to bring in an outsider depending on how Kendall and the other kids play this. Lots of possible directions for Season 3.
