It has been out since Saturday for me. I work for the county and tons of other buildings have been shut down so non-essential folks just get the day off. Our building is on the PG&E grid, so I've had to come in every day. This is a real mess. They have estimated it may come back Friday. But yes, it is now at a point where it is freezing, and losing power just isn't acceptable. Especially for the elderly and kiddos.
btw - for any Cali peeps that are wondering if they are going to get affected by 'round 3' there's this (not sure how accurate it is considering PG&E's filp flopping):
man. I hope you guys are alright. This shit is starting to feel very book of Revaltionary. The world is literally burning and climate change is destroying many parts of the world. We also have absolute psychopaths in control where they have the power to end the world with a push of a button.
If any actor even remotely good looking plays Newsom his head would never fit through a door. That man really loves himself (and his best friend’s wife apparently)
Our power came back on at 1am last night in Marin County, our update from PG&E for our address is still the same as it was Saturday afternoon. It would be nice to get some rain soon because as far as I can tell we could be right back in this bullshit at any point if the winds shift again.
We were just alerted that Humboldt won't lose power tonight as had been planned, and there is no foreseeable need to shut us down in the near future.
I sure hope that the power outages are done for all of you. It's awful the way they are going about this especially with the temps you are having now that it's later in the year. Never really dealt with outages other than for a few hours at the most so I can only imagine how awful that would be for several days.
Have you checked your address? I entered my old work address on Market St. and they said it wasn't scheduled to be impacted, so maybe SF will be skipped. Thankfully, Humboldt isn't scheduled as part of this shutdown either. https://psps.ss.pge.com/

I actually moved up to Marin county earlier this year, SF proper hasn't been affected by any of the shutoffs as far as I know. My address doesn't show up in the check yet but we are in the coverage map they sent out so who knows. Just putting my address in that stupid checker is giving me PTSD.

Ohhhhhhhh, ok. Good luck! Do you have a generator?

We don't, not a lot of space unfortunately in a small apartment to run a gas generator. We've been considering getting a big battery potentially with solar if we can find the right one. It's all extremely frustrating.
Is this ever going to end or is this just life in CA from now on?
Sadly, I think it's the latter until we get a statewide power company that can get its act together in terms of putting their lines beneath ground and away from the threat of igniting a fire.

And politicians who do more than just point fingers at each other.
I read somewhere it cost $3 million per mile to run lines underground. They should have started this a long time ago. But how much are the lawsuits, bad publicity, and responsibility for lost life and property costing them?
@Garthgou81 We didn't end up losing it either, but I'm still pissed about the lack of communication and them having us as a maybe until the last minute. I'm really not enjoying having to be prepared for power to be shut off for undefined amounts of time at any point the PG&Es risk team decides it's in their interest to do so.

Oh I know. I had put off restocking my fridge because I was worried. I finally went last Friday and bought a bunch, then to hear that it would be turned off again Wednesday was so frustrating.
we got put on notice Monday night that we were gonna get shut off again on Wednesday. then on Tuesday afternoon they 'called off our county'. a few hours later we get a text alert from Xfinity stating that we will be losing internet due to the blackouts. i was so confused, and a neighbor tried to explain to me that we will still have power but will be losing internet because the internet towers were going to be affected. anyways, we never lost power OR internet.
i'm there with you @bizmarkiefader - the lack communication and notice is complete bullshit and knowing there's really nothing we can do about it adds another level of frustration .
Singapore’s entire power grid is underground. One of the benefits of going from 3rd to 1st world later on the human timeline.
Not sure how much it costs but we get some pretty serious thunderstorms here. Ones that shake the entire house and it’s constantly 85-100degrees with every building blasting AC. Haven’t lost power once.
Underground is 100% the way to go. The benefits will surely outweigh the costs over the long run.
I feel for you guys in CA big time. I'm in Minnesota and the longest I've been without power has been somewhere around 12 hours. Luckily that wasn't during Winter but I can only imagine how much of a hassle dealing with that crap has been. Hopefully they get their shit figured out so you all don't have to deal with this.

Ah yes but you can't do this because it is going to hurt quarterly numbers, much better to invest that money in stock buybacks so you can keep up the exec bonuses at the end of the year. That or put it into buying the regulatory board put in place to control the obvious problems of having a for profit monopoly control an extremely important public utility.
