    Devs is amazing.
It is but those of you thinking of watching it be aware the pace is glacial, which you might also find annoying.

I'm glad the next on Westworld preview indicates a possible shift from mostly talking and posing to action.

This. Devs is one of those shows that is more of a whole mood rather than a show you're going to want to try and figure out every plot puzzle. Turn off the lights, put on your headphones, and enjoy (and definitely don't background watch).

  • I really enjoy this season so far, I enjoyed most episodes more on a rewatch.

I'm with you on that. The 2nd episode wasn't very rewarding during rewatch but every other episode definitely have been. I rewatched season 2 leading up to this season and that season really benefited from another rewatch.

I'm loving the corporate espionage and the "real" world building. Can't get enough of it. The AI running society, RICO, Delores and Caleb's crime spree, Delos fighting takeover, riot robots, etc. All of it is great stuff. On the other hand, the simulation/robot mental problem scenes (and entire fucking dedicated episode that could have achieved the same effect in less than 10 minutes) are a grind. Even worse when otherwise great characters with great scenes get dragged down into them. Love most of Charlotte's scenes and Delores' scenes; have zero non-pornographic interest in watching Delores spoon "Charlores" or "Derlotte" or whatever you call her now. And the Man in Black mental breakdown. Fuck me, that was boring and ham fisted. First scene in the season from my favorite character and story line, and all it did was make me less interested in how he gets from where he is now to the post-credit scene in last season's finale.

Usually when a gal shaves a guy with a straightedge razor, there’s all sorts of sexy power-exchange riskiness going on. This was like, for God’s sake, you haven’t finished yet? And, how is it that Maeve has so much control over, I dunno, the Grid? Did awful-accent-French-guy have her “enhanced?”

Given what badasses these hosts are, wouldn’t it make more sense to have your “stop” button be a deadman’s switch? It’s almost like it’s Checkov’s Poorly Thought Out Device. Wanna bet we’re going to have a mad struggle over who controls one of those buttons?

  • So Vincent Cassel, the actor who plays Serac, says he is a real person in an interview:

"Well, I think that the show proposes such a crazy world where everything is possible," Cassel said. "I think it can drive the audience to think that would be a possibility, because there is stuff like that in the show. But then again, it’s not the case."

When we followed up to ask to confirm if Serac was a real person, Cassel replied: "He is a real guy."

^ Bernard thought he was a real guy too.

Perhaps the wireless network tech Maeve used in those parks she was in to control hosts is the same tech used in the real world/futureworld.  I'm wondering, after her bad loss to Mulores, if Maeve's host will get some physical upgrades or allies as she's clearly not going to be much use to Serac if she keeps coming in second in fights.

  • I really wish there was an episode where the entire plot was devoted to properly spelling Dolores’ name.

I find it believeable. Literally every household appliance you can think of has some kind of wireless connectivity now from printers, to doorbells, to juice presses lol. My phone can't talk directly to my printer but it can indirectly thru my WiFi which is a wireless mesh network like the hosts in Westworld. Also, as someone who got hacked just using Starbucks' WiFi, I don't find it hard to believe that Maeve could hack into these networks. I mean google "hacker steals car" haha.

  • Man, any player characters in the cyberpunk game I GM that tried a brute force smash and grab at a high society party the way Dolores did should expect to have threat response all over them. For a surveillance state the panopticon isn’t very tight.
  • I’ve been catching up with the show and the podcast. This has easily been my favorite season so far, and the Dolores clone obfuscation was much less annoying than the puzzle box times winery stuff from seasons past.
