The Last of Us 2: Spoilers

so wanted to talk about the game but I’m also not gonna burn through it so didn’t want to put a spoiler thread of for the end of the game. I’m going to update the title to where I’m at and anyone else will know spoilers only go as far as that chapter/entry.

So holy shit! I’m disappointed we got no Joel bad ass killing time. The second game was all Ellie too so I was looking forward to getting back in Joel’s boots. But that sequence with the hordes and running away was pretty cool. Also it would have been cool to get a seen with Joel telling Ellie the truth and her freaking out about it. Maybe having her run away as the catalyst for the story. Or being kidnaped once she tells the wrong people. But oh well.

Not sure what to think about Ellie being gay/bi. Like if they did it just because most gamers are men/boys. But I am definitely digging Dina as a character and already getting attached to her. Will have no problems with high emotions with the new team.

I’m definitely right back in it though and find myself searching every inch of every place and still being totally bare bones on ammo and stocks. Even moderate level I’m finding myself dying a lot. But not enough to turn the difficult down.

That’s a...weird thing to say. She kissed another girl way back in the DLC for the first game maybe 6 or 7 years ago. Now she’s older and understands more about her sexuality and comfortable to be in relationships with other women.

It’s strange to assume that the writers made a character gay to what, titillate their target audience?  Representation in games is important but it doesn’t have to be for a reason or agenda, the character was written that way.

Sorry if I blew that out of proportion, I’ve just seen a lot of comments complaining about LGBTQ+ representation in this game and I just want people to see it doesn’t have to be some sort of conspiracy to have a gay character in a video game.

I’ve seen some touching comments from Jewish people glowing about having representation through Dina with her dialogue in the synagogue because they normally don’t get to relate with characters on that level.

What mode are you playing on? I’ve been playing hard and while I’ve been dying a lot too.  I really like having to conserve the little ammo I have and it pushes me to scavenge and search every corner of the map.

I’m just starting Seattle Day 2 and loving it more than the 1st game.

All good. I don’t have any problem with her being gay/bi.  I just asked a question in the hopes that their intentions were good. Im Fine/happy the route they went. And like I said(which I don’t know why you cut out) I like Dina and the connection they have.

I stuck with the difficulty setting it came with. I think it’s moderate. Even lower than hard I’ve ended many battles with no ammo. Every miss feels huge and disappointing.

the one thing that has me sort of pissed is when I know there’s a big area to search and I jump over something thinking it’s a secret area of items it ends up being a one way ticket to the next set piece and the auto save kicks in immediately so you can’t go back unless you constantly manual save.  And you know you just missed out on a bunch of items in areas you didn’t search first.
  • Loving the game so far.. spoiler alert— it’s LONG I’m about 15 hours in and have been thorough in my searching but not lollygagging.

Like Neal said, it’s been well established that Ellie is gay and it doesn’t feel forced or as an f-you to any particular group. I’m sure people will have issue with it, but what can you do.

The writing is incredible in this game and I’d put it up against most movies.

  • Ellie is one of the “realest” characters I’ve ever seen — in ANY media, not just video games.  Her dialogue is impeccable, and the actor is absolutely fantastic.

So I played the night it was released and stopped for the night right after Joel was killed. And then I restarted it the next day because my wife wanted to play too. I came so close to bursting into tears when it recapped Joel saving her and him singing her a song knowing he was going to die and if I did, it totally would’ve spoiled it for her lol

Spoiler in Seattle, pre-Fuck Fedra gate:

    Specifically involving the music store
When you happen upon the music store and pick up the guitar, Elle play's part of the song that Joel wrote her in the beginning.  I teared up, not gonna lie.  This game is emotional.

  • It’s done twice by this point in the game. But yea. It sucks. And seeing them together with the “3 years earlier” section is heartbreaking. Yet three find a way to have some levity with him pushing her in the water.

I fucking love this game. I swear to god if HBO ruins it I will burn their studio down.

I have cautious optimism, but yeah...  don’t fuck this up, HBO.  Make The Last of Us the show that The Walking Dead should have been.

  • Jesus, I’m 24 hours into this game. It’s so good but just doesn’t end lol

Man the birthday gift might be the greatest non action gameplay I’ve ever witnessed. Edit. No it 100% is the greatest. Getting all choked up..

  • The landscape design is incredible. I went to high school with the guy in charge and he was leagues ahead of us in art class.

Yea, it makes having to scrounge around not as bad as it’s actually enjoyable looking at the small details.

So up to Finding Strings. It’s funny playing a scene with unlimited bullets when this game is so focused on ammo conservation.

Also man, this pregnancy and Jessie showing up actually has me feeling bad for Ellie. Then they have you spend some time with Tommy to get you going to make find him and make sure he’s alive. The writing just keeps on punching.
  • That driving scene was nuts! Such chaos but it never felt like you were just spray and praying

Nope. It’s so ingrained to only take Aimee shots that even in that scene I wasn’t unloading clips.

  • Just finished it. Stuck the landing, A+ game. Been sitting reflecting for the past hour.

    Literal masterpiece

  • I simultaneously loved the ending, yet wished it had somehow gone differently.

  • Yea I know what you mean. It wasn’t the one I was after but it the one that was most true to the theme of the game. I’m pretty satisfied

Don’t spoil it. But I’m gonna Guess that Ellie ends up working with Abby to kill Scars. And potentially Abby has the ability with the immunity. Really I don’t want to know. Just this is what I think and will come back to when see how wrong I was when finished

  • Good theory— my wife and I kept adapting our theories and it was really fun. The game is so well written that there can be so many theories that work and there isn’t an obvious direction the story goes.

100% Agree! 43 hours total for me. It's a gut-wrenching, disturbingly beautiful, masterpiece that leaves you with such a heavy feeling and a lot to process. This was definitely an unexpected path that still feels very grounded and says a lot about humanity in general. I will eventually do a replay but I need a few days just to fully process everything and not feel like I was punched in the stomach.   ...Just wow, Naughty Dog, bravo!  While my hopes are super high that we get a part 3, regardless if that comes to fruition, these 2 games have been phenomenal in story and gameplay!

  • Yea we’re going to replay and my wife is going to play this time— she’s not really a gamer but she can play the story + mode with all of the upgrades. Plus the first 2 hours of the game really get you acquainted with the controls

  • Only read first bc not sure where I’m at vs everyone else,

     ***SPOILER***

but I did not like the fact I had to play Abby. I’m loving the game though, although think it a little too outlandish. To believe there’s any stealth involved after you reach S and things you do to get inside is laughable. How do I tell what part I’m on? I see S.....Day 1.
  • I didn’t like having to play as Abby either but by the end of it I was ok with it— mainly because of the weapons she had she encounters one of the gnarliest bosses in both games
    blue_sleeve
  • Yeah, at first I wasn't a fan either. But I think that is the point. By making you play as her, you start to see her side of things and by the end your opinions in some form or fashion will change. I've started my 2nd play-through. Picking up things I missed before, story-wise. I can't say this enough, the crew at Naughty Dog outdid themselves!!

  • Guys. Spoilers up to part 19. At this point you only have played Abby in the very beginning.

If you want a full blown end of the game spoilers please put those behind the spoiler tag...or create a new thread. Sorry I’m slow at games but the title is clear.

  • I never saw the different “parts”. Does it tell you on the pause screen or something?
  • That’s what I asked. Not sure where to find the part. Maybe from here on, at the start post where you are. Ie Seattle Day 1 - city. Cause yeah, I may have been spoiled and really tryin not to be.

I wanted to put the names but those were considered too spoilerly so I only could go by part numbers. Which after you beat the game you can find the list of parts and count...

I didn’t think the names were spoilerly so I just googled the list of parts and then put the number when I got to it.
    gguenot
  • I think the final chapter is called “Ellie Turns Into a Bloater” (no spoilers)
  • @Hatorian, I too never saw “the parts”... I’m really sorry if I spoiled anything. No one ever wants that and it definitely was not my intention.
