John Boyega
Aaron and Jim briefly discussed the John Boyega/GQ article on LWJA this week. I was really bummed out to here Jim say he didn't have too much sympathy because presumably, Boyega was paid and is more famous now. This is fine and I love Bald Move, but I wanted to link to the article, for any one interested in reading it. I think Boyega lays out a fair argument and shows proper appreciation to Disney, while acknowledging that money does not make a person immune to racism, nor should he feel compelled to be silent (shut up and dribble) re: his experience making the movies, particularly at a time of social unrest around the world. I'm very proud of him for speaking up and not letting money buy his silence.

I also don't understand where he's coming from saying they didn't know what to do with him and didn't give him any nuance and then to criticize The Last Jedi and seemingly defend JJ Abrams. He was one of the main protagonists in The Last Jedi and went through a bunch of character growth, with nuance, as he learned what it took to be a hero. There was clearly a plan in place for him after that, but it was all dropped and he was barely a background character in Rise of Skywalker. I understand he didn't agree with all the script choices Rian Johnson made, but to say he didn't know what to do with him or didn't want to give him any nuance is just silly.
They may actually deserve maybe a point or two since having a female lead in a blockbuster movie is somehow still kind of progressive in 2020.
I do hope Jim reads the interview if he hasn't already.
