Robes. Yay or nay?

MurderbearMurderbear Cold Spring, Ky
We have a new controversy bubbling up and @michelle suggested a thread so here we are!

Do you wear a robe?

I personally am not a robesman. I see them in movies and TV shows and think man, that DOES look comfortable... I just can't actually do it though. Also, if I am getting out of the shower, I don't understand putting something on just to take off again when I put on actual clothes or even loungewear like I have on most days anyway. Why not just put those clothes on in the first place?

  • No to robes.

    Put on clothes.

    Seems pretty simple.

What kind of a robe? You mean like a dressing gown?

only time i wore a robe is when i 'borrowed' one of my sisters robes as kid. i needed it to complete my Ric Flair outfit when we played WWF in my best friends front lawn.

Only in hotel rooms for me.  I can’t not oblige a fancy robe hanging in a hotel closet. Also on the only cruise I ever took.

    A bathrobe.
  • I like the idea of robes but I'm always too hot so there's like a couple month window where I would even consider them. There aren't any situations I can think of where I'd have a robe but no blanket so I'll wear my normal stuff and a blanket for comfort if it's really, really cold. Then you just take off the blanket instead of needing to go change if it gets too hot.

  • I'm not a robe guy, but I could be.  I currently have a bathrobe, but it's a thick and heavy terrycloth material - it's like wearing a giant towel so it doesn't really lend itself to being lounged around in.

I can appreciate a robe and robesmen with sweet robe game but I prefer my thing which is drying off quickly after a preplanned extra long shower, getting boxer briefs on and then go run and jump back under covers for a preplanned 10-20 minutes of extra snoozing.  Robes would mess that whole thing up.

I’m the same as @bizmarkiefader - I like the idea of them, but I never really get cold enough. I have a soft fluffy purple one in my wardrobe that my daughter sometimes drags out in winter and wears when she’s watching TV at my house, but I rarely use it. I’m more of a blankie person if it’s that cold.

Sidenote: I have been watching The Golden Girls and those ladies seem to have owned eleventy million dressing gowns each.

aren't bathrobes basically a giant towel with holes for your arms? kinda like the towel version of a snuggie.

  • ... why don’t you wear robes?

They are great for colder places. When I lived in Boston (and hell, even now, in Northern California) they add an extra layer on top of pajamas. I don't typically use them unless I am cold and need a bit more warmth than PJs can provide. Though they also can be helpful if you are needing laundry-day clothing.

What super power do you have that lets you jump into bed and sleep for 10-20 minutes?

  • Bathrobes are GREAT in the winter when you wake up. Team robe for life.

  • Yes. I bought my wife a Super expensive robe for Christmas that feels amazing. But she doesn’t wear it so I took it. It feels like I imagine sleeping on a cloud would be like.

I'm a hoodie and joggers guy when it comes to leisure wear. Comfy, and versatile, as I can also wear them out of the house.

I have a nice robe, but really never wear it. To much material for my taste ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I don't wear one for lounging.  I'm a sweatpants, sweatshirt and blanket kind of person.  But I do wear one after the shower, after I've towel dried, while I'm doing my hair and makeup.  I don't like to put my clothes new clothes on until I'm fully ready, and I don't want to waste my time putting pajamas back on.

Mine is not the terry cloth kind though.  I find those much to hot and restricting.  It's just a short cotton one.

Lounging around in a giant towel is the ultimate best.  I’m very into comfort, so there are definitely times when the roommate isn’t home and I take either a long incredible shower or a long soothing bath, & just hang around the house in a big towel & my hair piled on top of my head in another towel.  Best. days. ever.

I’m only a robe person in spas and hotels.  Otherwise, if I’m just hanging out at home on the weekend, it’s the above scenario or I’m in yoga pants, a cotton cami-style tank top, & a zip up hoodie (unzipped) for warmth & comfort.  Add in some fuzzy cable knit slippers and it’s a whole mood.

Definitely a no go for me on the robes. When I'm lounging around the house and know I'm not going out for the rest of the night I go straight for big baggy sweatpants. My only complaint is that I feel like all really comfy sweatpants are made for wookiees and are way too long for all 5' 5" of me.

Not to be intensive to all the suffering this year but 2020 has been a boon for wearing sweats all the goddamn time.

Gotta get on team jogger ... Not all comfy sweats need to be baggy! Tapered legs should work better for your stature.

We should have an extra hooded category. I expect some serious contenders from the new Dune movie.
