I'm excited for my Bruins to open tonight. I watched a bit of opening night and man were there a lot of goals scored. I'm curious to see how this shortened season shakes out with minimal off time from last season and realigned divisions. By the end of the season, teams will be very familiar with each other. Also, couldn't be happier about Bergeron finally getting to wear the C. Let's Go Bs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Being near the Milwaukee area I have long been a Blackhawks fan, since my town cannot have an NHL team (CURSES!). No joy in this season... That being said, my minor league Milwaukee Admirals, who opted out this year (DOUBLE CURSES), are an affiliate of the Predators. They are my only hope.
  • Minnesota Wild fan first and Vegas Knights fan second. Didn't really watch much hockey last year and I'm not certain how much I'll be watching this year as it sounds like most games start pretty late with playing a lot on the West coast. I've been in Minnesota my entire life and been a Vikings fan from the get go and a Wild fan as soon as the team was created. Needless to say I'm not very optimistic, Minnesota teams always do their best to let us down but I'm hoping to get back into hockey this year.

Bruins are higher up on my list because of Coyle going home to play there. I always liked him. San Jose as well because of Brent Burns, he's a ridiculously cool guy and he appeared in season 6.2 of Vikings and got to show off his lack of teeth.

Av's fan here, since the Nordiques days of trading Lindros (twice, to two different teams on the same day).

Secondly Pittsburgh, as long as #87 skates for them.

Charlie Coyle has been one of the better pick ups for the Bruins in recent years. I have really enjoyed watching him play

  • Predicting a repeat.  My team (Pittsburgh) doesn't make the playoffs.
  • What's the boards wisdom on the toughest 2021 divisions?

I think the North division, not necessarily because of the quality of the teams but the travel is crazy.  Montreal has played 6 games, all on the road and all but 1 of them in a different time zone.  All of the teams in the North div will have to make lots of East-West road trips and play the same teams multiple times on the same trip (ie Montreal has played Edmonton twice and Vancouver three times in the last 5 games)
  • ... a surprising turn of events to say the least.

Wow, perhaps I should become a Blues fan.

At least he didn't sign with his hometown Thrashers, or is it Flames?

  • A quarter of the way through the season and the Canes are thumping.  It took a few years, but Rod and Don wanted every line to compete at the centre position and I think they have it with Trocheck, Staal, Aho, and Paquette.  In my time following the Canes, I've never seen them as dominant on the boards and they get inside the dots as well as anyone.  @CretanBull What do all the advanced metrics say? Can it last?
  • Thoughts on the Panarin story?? Is this Vladimir pulling strings?
  • Trade deadline - big stuff seems to be starting.

What was the story?  I must have missed it.

I'm biased on this one, as I have MAJOR HATE for Andrei Nazarov since his knee-on-knee hit on Forsberg in the 1996/1997 season.  I think he's scum.

I’m a casual with NHL, but that was the wildest shit I’ve ever seen.

I don't really watch hockey and I know this is like the oldest hot take around, but fighting is stupid. It adds nothing and it's not even a real fight! If they actually try to hurt each other than it turns into whatever this Rangers deal is. It's just this bizarre display of macho nonsense and I can't take the sport seriously.

$250,000 fine for the Rangers because of their public comments.  I saw a great tweet that the Rangers should have just punched Tom Wilson in the back of the head 50 times and it'd be the same fine.

Here is one from back in the day - not happening on the opening face off, but, still - one level higher - goalies.

    Pens v Islanders.

Pens v Islanders in 2021 too!!  Let's Go Pens!!

Haha goalie fight! It’s so cute! It’s like two people fighting in those inflatable sumo wrestler suits!

Roy v Vernon is still my all-time favorite.

I recommend watching the documentary Ice Guardians if you can. It's on Prime video to stream. It goes in great depth to the history of fighting in hockey like how it originated and why it is still a necessary part of the game and what the role of an enforcer is. Highly recommend even if you don't find the arguments convincing.

  • Playoffs have begun... The Wild squeaked out a win in overtime after surviving an onslaught of being outshot 19 to 5 in the first period. Both Talbot and Fleury stood on their heads to keep the game 0-0 in regulation. It's amazing how much more I enjoy playoff hockey versus regular season.

  • I can’t find the exact tweet right now but it’s from years ago, something along the lines of “why watch playoff hockey when you can snort cocaine and ride a motorcycle off a helicopter”

That Wild win yesterday was the first great entry into this years bender.

Well, Caps blew my bracket but I was very pleased to see STL make an early exit.

And oh, EDM… my lord.  Somebody rescue McDavid.
