I would think Pulp because Prestige to me implies content which is about a mundane or serious subject, takes itself seriously, never intentionally comes across as ridiculous, etc. Knives Out fails my tests.
Admittedly this will put a lot in Pulp but that’s fine with me, maybe not so useful if they are trying to fill both podcast streams equally.
This is a tough one for me. I guess I tend to think of pulp as things that I enjoy while I'm watching them, and prestige as things that provoke thoughts that stick with me or are worthy of reflection later on. I usually feel like presitge media has changed me in some way. Based on that definition, I think Knives Out is very high quality pulp for me. I know it had some themes about class it was going for, but nothing profound or original enough for me to feel like I need to keep chewing on it later.
Follow-up question: is Pulp Fiction prestige? Is The Prestige pulp? Inquiring minds want to know.
Prestige is waaay better than Knives Out. Hugh Jackman, Christopher Nolan, Christian bale. For sure…
I see prestige as “awards contenders”. The movies were either shot to be a contender. Or they were so good they became one. This could be a war epic like Dunkirk or say a generational comedy like Bridesmaids.
Pulp is dollars. They just want to sell tickets and make money. Fast and Furious is a good example here.
edit: I can totally understand why people would put Bridesmaids in pulp. Comedy definitely plays more to dollars than awards.
I really liked Knives Out. And I’ve actually never understood the split. I enjoy many different genres. It’s movie coverage. I look at the title. If I’m interested I listen. If not - delete. And between work, new shows finally releasing, and things to do happening once again I don’t really have time for rewatches. Exception: second day of second shot. Was feeling tired and watched LotR. Best excuse to sit on my arse for 3 hours and not feel guilty.
I'd be curious to see how the pulp/prestige thing has done on an upcoming Empire Business. I've never quite understood the need for the differentiation, but if it has helped the guys, then aces. That said, everything about this movie is firing on full cylinders, so it is hard for me not to think it is a prestige movie. But I also get that maybe the prestige title is held for the best of the best. It just seems less fun to think of it that way.
pulp in OJ being gross aside.. i'm really glad i watched this movie in a somewhat full theater before the hype (in fact i had no idea it was Rian Johnson til the credit roll). it was probably my last fun movie theater experience that i can remember. the audience was sooooo into it! so much fun!

I'm curious about that too. I suspect it at least helps/simplifies ad sales a lot to not have to be constantly building up a new feed for a show.
Whatever they're doing in terms of prestige show selection I hope they keep it up! I feel like my other TV podcasts have been forced to cover sub-par shows or exaggerate their enthusiasm for medium-good shows just because you have to keep release regular on-brand content whether the quality is there or not. BM has always had the best hit-rate for me in terms of truly excellent TV, and I hope this model lets them cash in on ad sales while still having lots of flexibility about what they cover.
I like that I don't have to check a bunch of feeds to see if there's anything new but for that purpose I might as well be using the firehose feed. I'm using it like a firehose feed split into two where everything that ends up in one of them feels slightly dissed.
