I caucused for Hillary in Seattle before I moved out to the burbs and the Bernie folks were standing on tables screaming at us.

    If only y'all had listened.

Bernie appears to be the Cassandra of this story.

The irony is -- way more female voters would have voted for Bernie in the primary were he female, than male Bernie supporters went for Trump in the presidential

That is absolutely the definition of sexism.

admittedly Bernie's support was 50/50 as far as I ever saw... It was like the line at a Built to Spill show

Hillary is still expected to win the popular vote. So for the second time in 16 years the winner of the popular vote will not be president.

Hillary has now pulled ahead in the popular vote. Trump on pace to have fewer votes than Romney or McCain. What decided this election are traditionally democratic voters deciding to stay home in swing states.

The electoral college strikes again. I don't know how I get through this day. Got to work an hour early on two whole hours of sleep.

Well technically it hasn't struck at all yet since they don't vote for a month or so, and technically all it would take is a few key members to decide to vote against who they're representing and Clinton could still be legally elected president, though nothing like that has ever happened as far as I know.

Regardless, the electoral college is archaic as fuck and needs to die, the whole reason it exists is because of century+ old transportation logistical issues for collecting votes spanning the country in a time before vehicles and highway systems.

Evaluate, learn, regroup, unite....it is not time to point fingers or play the "blame game"..it is time to take a look both inward and outward and make the needed changes. It will NOT be easy and we WILL have set backs, but our measure will be made on how we made it through those/these rough times, not by how we were when things went "our" way.
  • it's counterfactual anyway.  there's no way to know what would have happened had things gone differently earlier.  i definitely didn't expect a flagrant racist and misogynist to get significant support considering some of the things he said and did while on presumably a short leash during a campaign.  it's unimaginable to me that some people would think someone who clearly can't be trusted with twitter access could be trusted with the reins of power (with no real checks or balances) to the most powerful country in the history of the world.  in the face of that, who's to say what would have happened had there been a different democratic candidate?  i think biden's strengths would have lined up well against trump's weaknesses, personally, but i have no idea if he'd have won had he run against him.

So we got President-Elect Donald Trump.
    Republican majority in the Senate.
    Republican majority in the House.

And we have 1 open spot in the SCOTUS.  And 2 octogenarians.  And Justice Breyer ain't a spring chicken either.

And the majority of governors are Republican.

I'm still having a hard time wrapping my head around how Hillary never once stepped foot in Wisconsin.

  • Game time. First things first people. Gotta win those Midterm elections. The current Dmeocratic party is obviously in shambles otherwise this should've been a sure thing, so we need to cut off the dead weight, shape up, and get people to vote in the Midterms. We can't let voter apathy and unenthusiasm defeat us again.
  • Second thing fuck polls, polls were wrong the whole way, never trust them, don't ever get complacent.

Fuck the mainstream media!!! When I turned the TV this morning Trump gave them all a pearl necklace. The change of tone was straight out of the Simpsons where the news caster is welcoming in our new alien overlords.

@Freddy I didn't get into that movie but maybe I should have.

I voted...and went with the Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson. I don't care that I "wasted my vote" (a phrase a think makes little sense anyhow). I do wish the US voting system would make a change. I wish there was a "none of the above option" at the polls. When you have a year like this where both of the main candidates carry some heavy baggage it is a natural reaction for many to just say screw it an not vote. This would still allow them to exercise their right to vote but also make it clear that we need to do a better job of vetting candidates. For the record if that were an option I would have gone that way.

I would say the natural reaction for those that have been around is not to say "screw it". That is defeatist talk and breeds complancy and feet stomping. Not caring, is exactly what's wrong. It's not an either/or if you chose someone who CAN win and will meet your ideals much more closely. People often lose "big picture". There are many battles in this "war" to win you will need to lose some and compromise in some ways in order to get to a final goal. For me "none of the above" is as good as NOT exercising your right to vote (unless Chris Rock is running for that party). We have a hard enough time getting people registered AND voting in this country. Instead of trying to figure out how we can come together I have seen too much separatist talk these days amongst 3rd party and Democrats (we may not see eye to eye on everything, but are "closer" on most).

Too many folks have bled real blood, sweated real sweat and cried real tears to get me the right to vote. How can I chose to stand for nothing?
