edited February 2017 in Direct

You only have two choices this time. Choose between:

Paul Thomas Anderson (Hard Eight, Boogie Nights, Magnolia, Punch-Drunk Love, There Will Be Blood, The Master, Inherent Vice)

and

Alfonso Cuaron (Sólo Con Tu Pareja, A Little Princess, Great Expectations, Y Tu Mamá También , Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Children of Men, Gravity)

We only count votes from the survey (linked above) not from comments in this thread. Choose wisely.

Thanks!

  • I thought you guys were doing Nolan, did you guys change your mind?
  • I think they are going to start the Nolan one in May so that it lines up with the release of Dunkirk. This PTA or Cuaron one would fill the time until then.

  • Man, this is a tough choice. I'm a big PTA fan, but I've never seen Hard Eight and I've only seen some of his films once, so it would be great to revisit them.

On the other hand Cuaron has made two of my favorite films in Children of Men and Y Tu Mama Tambien. I also haven't seen his first one or Great Expectations.

Tough tough choice. I wonder which would make for more interesting discussions... When are you guys closing the vote?

  • Ah! Thanks Davey Mac.
  • I went with PTA, but it was a tough call (if nothing else because I'm always down for another Magnolia dissection). In addition to what @DaveyMac said, Cuaron also made far and away the best Potter flick. Great Expectations was pretty good if I remember correctly as well. I haven't seen it since it was in theaters, but I remember thinking it was really well done. I mostly remember it as a very beautiful movie visually.

  • Paul Thomas Anderson is my favorite director, so I had to go with him.

I've liked what I've seen from Cuaron, but I've only seen Potter, Children of Men, and Gravity. Will definitely check out the rest of his work soon.

We'll give it a week or so.
  • PTA all the way
  • @Travis . Agreed that he made the best Potter flick. He took the whole series in a darker, more interesting direction, just like the books I suppose. I really wasn't into the series until Azkaban.

I ended up voting for Cuaron as I think PTA is gonna run away with it. Really happy with either way it comes out though.
