Iron Fist on Netflix (spoilers)

Just wanted to start a thread here for anyone that's watching it, or maybe has already binged it all. I'm on episode 4 and it's *just okay*, but I'm hanging on. I have a nostalgia for this character because I used to read all of my uncles old "Power Man and Iron Fist" comic books from the '80s, so really this just feels like required watching until all the characters join up. I'm not really buying into the Sir Loras guy as Iron Fist yet, but fingers crossed!

I think as I'd heard such bad things that I'm surprised it isn't worst. It's fine so far. The worst thing is the acting of the guy playing Ward, he's just awful. On the flip side, I really like Colleen and enjoy her fight scenes.

Everyone and everything else is wholly mediocre. It feels like the simple and inoffensive kid brother of Daredevil.

I agree completely with this take. I do like Colleen, and although I think Ward is pretty bad, I think the guy playing his father is way worse. He's hamming it up and I don't understand his "coming back to life" thing.

You know what Iron Fist isn't afraid of? Terrible writing and equally bad acting.

So that was pretty ballsie of Netflix/Marvel to say they were gonna have a team up with Daredevil, J. Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fisted, before they knew if the last one sucked or not.
  • On episode 5 and I like it so far

  • No worse than other netflix marvel stuff imo. Critics exaggerated, shocking i know. It def gets stronger throughout and finishes strong. I honestly like it better than luke cage and jessica jones; The mythology and hand mystery throughout keeps it interesting for me. Making Defenders 8 eps is smartest thing they couldve done and should solve problem all these shows have.

  • By the way colleen is my favorite character, shes great. Harold is really good too and of course Rosario Dawson continues being 1 of best things about these shows.

Of the netflix/marvel shows, it ranks last in my book.  I would have thought that pretty difficult to be worse than J Jones.  I think the writer of that "and now you're a new yorker" speech from S2 of daredevil wrote the whole season.   There were very few moments that I liked.  Especially after Luke Cage being as good as it was, this was quite a fall.

This. I knew this series was a goner when I heard they cast Finn Jones, a man with no martial arts background, to play one of the greatest martial artists in the Marvel Universe. What I didn't know was how painfully boring the series would be. Fire everybody.

Funny the variance in our own personal rankings. My rankings would be DD sn 2, DD sn 1, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist.

    If we're ranking

    1. Luke Cage (by a lot)
    2. DD s1
    3. DD s2
    4. JJ
    5. Iron Fist (by a lot)

Poor Finn Jones, he's come out saying he wonders if people hate Iron Fist because of Trump (i.e. trump backlash against a White billionaire as a hero).    Sorry dude, I'm as much of an anti Trump person as anyone, and you can't lay this one at Trumps feet.   The writing just plain sucked.  There is a lot I can forgive but the story was ... just ridiculously bad.  There were some bad performances, but honestly I don't think the actors were the worst thing about this.   Story, direction, fight choreography, all were just... bad.   Even the intro seemed to be a direct copy of the American remake of Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

I'm cracking up at him blaming this show being horrible on Trump hahaha

I think one of the most perplexing questions is why was Harold Meachum cutting his mashed potatoes with a knife?

I've watched the first 6 episodes and all I can say is, "Claire, you already know Murdock and Cage.  Why the fuck are you letting Rand continue to say he has to do this on his own?"  I agree with most of you, each episode brother Meachem gets worse and worse.  Also I thought Gao was in partnership with the Hand not part of them, but at least through 7 episodes it does not seem like the series is making that distinction.  I think Netflix or Marvel did themselves a disservice making a lot of their shows 12-13 episodes instead of 10.  Even the Defenders "mini-series" at 8 episodes seems a little too much.

Honestly, Iron Fist was going to be the hardest one for Marvel to do.  It seems like many people don't like it.

  • I'm 3 episodes in and this show is rough. These Marvel Shows aren't perfect but what the hell happened to this show? Was the production rushed? Did anybody care?

    -It looks incredibly cheap
-Writing is laughably bad, there's a scene where a homeless man shows up with an iphone for no reason so Danny can look up Dad Meechum
-The actor who plays Ward has no charisma
-The action choreography is nothing special, especially for a show about a super human trained in martial arts
-Laughably bad scenes played for suspense or tragedy such as Danny falling out of a window or his mom getting sucked out of a plane
    -The intro theme is uninspired

I wanted to give this a chance but this is like a CW show. DD, LC and JJ felt like they had a vision or at the very least a style. Iron Fist could be a great throwback to 70's kung fu films with impressive stunt and prop work but what we get is either bad or just bland. Why not hire a lead actor who is also a trained martial artist or stuntperson? Clearly this show is just a stepping stone to get to the defenders series.

Batman is a white billionaire hero and he is one of the most popular comic book heroes of all time lmao. Not to mention Ironman.
  • Like a lot of people have said this is the worst of the Netflix/marvel show imo. I don't have a problem with a nonasian actor playing Danny, but they had to cast someone with a martial arts background. I think the fight scenes suffered greatly from all the quick cuts needed since Finn wasn't able to pull it off. The hallmark hallway fight scene turned out to be just blah, both of them. They spent way too much time with the Meachums and the Rand Corp. They could have had Danny investigating the ties to the Hand without all the board nonsense. Hell the board fired the MEachums and Danny (who had no title) but that really didn't matter. Danny had 51% of the stock so he could replace all the board and reinstate everyone. I'm sure the brother and sister had enough stock to do the same thing too. I had a love hate relationship with Clair. I loved the way she was the calming force throughout, but I couldn't stand that she mentions she fought the hand before and never calls in DD. Not getting LC can be forgiven since he is locked up. Like almost everyone has said Colleen was the stand out.
I almost feel like they had second thoughts about casting a white actor so they didn't have him beat any of the big bads. This show could have been so much better and it's a shame they made the decisions they did.

When they were developing Iron Fist as a movie in the early 2000's (the movie was never made), Ray Park (Darth Maul) was cast as Danny. Now that's a guy that could have taken the fight scenes to the next level.

I agree, the only problem is Ray Park is very short

If he's tall enough to play Chuck Norris in The Legend of Bruce Lee he's plenty tall enough to play Danny Rand.
  • I don't know where I heard he was like 5-5, but I've thought that since EP1 lol. Just Goggled it he's anywhere from 5-8 to 5-10, I stand corrected Sir.
  • fidozfidoz Houston
Hollywood doesn't care anyway. Tom Cruise is 4'8" and plays Jack Reacher.
  • The show is bad... I think I'm out.
  • has no one watched this show all the way through?  The show itself isn't "amazing" but the fight scenes in the back half of the movie are actually really good.

I didn't make it through the first episode.  The fight scenes and stunt work were all very poorly done, and the whole drama behind him coming back after being years away was handled very poorly.  I really like  Finn Jones from GoT and Tom Pelphrey from Banshee, but whoo-wee.  Kind of a stinker.  Hope they really get Finn sorted out for stunt work before The Defenders and/or Season 2.
  • When I have to sit there and quietly say to myself, "well... Finn's fighting is better than his acting at least"... that's a problem.   I even found Rosaria Dawson to be hard to tolerate in this.  She was like the sidekick no one wanted with a small dose of jiminy cricket.

I'd rather watch a Sand Snakes GOT spinoff than season 2 of Iron Fist. And yes, I slogged all the way to the end. Netflix owes me a trophy.

You do realize that the love interest/ Dojo teacher in Iron Fist is one of the Sand Snakes?
