Well, it's the next day. I've only just begun my journey back to feeling human but I had to get online to give it up for our community and everyone who made yesterday the craziest / most amazing 24 hours we've ever had at Bald Move.and 36 others.
You all did some amazing work keeping A.Ron and I entertained in chat and showing your support with donations for the homeless. Everyone contributed and we all did something awesome together. I couldn't be more grateful for everything.
On a personal note, one of the most moving moments of this whole experience actually happened this morning after the marathon ended and I got a full night's sleep. I was laying in bed, browsing some random gaming channels on Twitch where I saw chat after chat filled with truly disgusting people shouting slurs and hatred at the streamers and their fellow chatters. Then I thought back to the civility and good humor of our community during the charity event. In 24 hours, I didn't see even a single person say something meant to offend or hurt someone else. You are honestly the best community of people I've ever seen on the internet and I'm proud to call you Bald Move fans.
Coming in under the wire here...and 16 others.
I want to let everyone who has supported us over the years know just how grateful I am. Even during the stressful times (and there have been many), Bald Move has been the most personally rewarding thing in my life. This experience wouldn't have been possible without all of you. Thank you for 10 amazing years!
Here's the deal with A.Ron not being on the show anymore...People complain when we don't cover the shows they like. People also complain when we're not as hyped as they are about a show we are covering. And I complain when I'm recording 8 podcasts in a week and they're all mediocre to bad as a result. The change in hosts on BCS and The New Pope were designed to address all of those problems. Having more hosts means covering more shows. Having more hosts also means producing the same number of podcasts as a network, while having to produce fewer shows individually. Producing fewer shows individually means less stress and more fun covering the shows we're going to cover.Bottom line is, Bald Move has to work for us as human beings for it to continue existing. For the past 3 years, it has absolutely not worked. We're making the changes required to fix that. Yes, it will upset some people - no one likes change - but the alternative is we stop making the podcasts you love and go get far less stressful day jobs. I hope people can understand that.
I'm working on recovering from yesterday's shenanigans. Thank you to everyone who participated and donated to make our 2nd charity stream a complete success. We put on the show but it's really the generosity and spirit of all of you that makes the event what it is. $15,000+ raised for the homeless and an acknowledgement from a childhood hero is gonna be hard to beat, but we'll give it a shot next year!and 9 others.
We just got the gift you sent and we were puzzled until we saw this thread. HOLY SHIT MAN! That's incredible! Seriously, that's the most amazing bald-move-related thing that has ever happened. I'm also stoked to have the illustration that I can point to and say "you see that? Someone out there has a tattoo of that."and 7 others.
As someone who has over a decade of recorded podcasts amounting to thousands of hours of jokes, personal revelations and potentially controversial takes on all kinds of issues, I like to think that people should be given the opportunity to change and be forgiven for it when they apologize. Many of the things I said when I first started podcasting in 2006 are cringe-worthy to me now and I'd rather not have said them. My hope would be that people think it's silly to hold 36 year-old Jim accountable for the poor judgement of 20 year-old Jim.and 3 others.
Maybe the ephemeral nature of services like Twitch or Snapchat is the antidote for this kind of thing. If your statements evaporate 2 weeks after you make them you can't be held accountable for who you were a decade ago and you have the opportunity to evolve as a human being.
