Given where everything was headed this season, I thought it was a satisfying conclusion. I wish we could have gotten an episode (or two) of Dany being Tyrant Dictator before Jon killed her, but so be it. The best ending Jon could have hoped for was going back to the north with the Freefolk and that’s exactly what happened. Same with Sansa and Arya. Bran is a bit WTF but it seems like Tyrion is basically ruling which is what I was expecting.
I would have paid good money for Tyrion to flip to the back of the ASOIAF book and make a comment about how the Maester hasn’t finished it yet
The first part of the season I felt like the actor portraying Cal was just bad. He seemed like a one dimensional “hot husband.” Like a Disney Prince or a guy from a Hallmark Christmas movie. But after this episode, now I think his might be the best performance of the show. I can’t wait to go back and watch him knowing what we know now. It’s amazing what an actor can do with their character when they know what they’re building up to, as opposed to show runners who just spring it in them in the final scripts (yeah, guess that wound is still raw.)
I’m trying really hard to like this show. As a kid who taped every episode of TNG on VHS, I’m trying really really hard to get into this. And I just can’t seem to care about any of these new people. Like, I wanna care about Soji but Nepenthe has been my favorite episode so far because of the Rikers. I’d watch a whole season of Picard going from planet to planet catching up with his old crew. But this other stuff? Meh.Oh well. I tried.
