My unsullied husband says he's done with the show for good. He is pissed. I wonder how other show watchers feel.
I was staring hard at those eyes, waiting for a warg eye roll...I think the reception would have been a lot better if the cliffhanger was the hint of resurrection instead of just bleeding out. Damn you, @A_Ron_Hubbard for coming up with better endings than the DD's!
Benjen Stark troll!! Well played, sirs. Well played.
My concern at this point is, how will they do the resurrection next season in a way that's not cheesy or lazy? Like, PSYCH!! He's not dead after all, silly!!
I feel like it could work in the book, with an anonymous chapter heading like the Reek/Theon reveal, combined with Mel's POV. Lots of different narrative devices to make this cool and…I don't know…UN ham-fisted.
I think that NOT making that the cliffhanger this season and leaving it for next year was a huge missed opportunity, and is going to create some lame TV next year. This has been the one consistent problem I've had with the show, is that it prioritizes its pacing with the books over good tv decisions.
Also, I've been thinking a lot about why this season is such a bummer. My man says he's done with it forever because there's no one to root for, and that making major characters suffer and/or die has just turned into a gimmick at this point.
I disagree, but that's cause I kinda feel like we're through the rough patch now and shit can start getting awesome again. Pretty much exactly how I felt after finishing Dance.
And also because THE NORTH FUCKING REMEMBERS.
What would this season have been like if they reallocated the time and $ spent on Dorne toward developing some Grand Northern Conspiracy rumblings?
