  • I Promised I Would Do It.

Back during the great Bald Move Crisis of 2016, I made this comment: http://forums.baldmove.com/discussion/comment/47026/#Comment_47026

As we all know, the guys hit their goal WELL before the end of the year… in fact, I think it might have been the very next day.

I’m a man of my word.  I’m very proud to present the first and only (to the best of my knowledge) Bald Move tattoo!:

    image

Yup, that’s a tattoo of Zombie Jim and Zombie A.Ron on my leg.  Watching Dead was the show that originally got me hooked on Bald Move (way back in season 3), so when it came time to create a tattoo that paid tribute to our podcasting heroes, the decision to have it be TWD-themed was pretty easy to make.

My long-time tattoo artist and good friend Rob Sampson (of Patriot Tattoo in Spring Valley, CA) came up with this amazing design.  If anyone’s interested, I posted a brief Imgur gallery of the design process with some sketches, etc:  http://imgur.com/a/moXCF

Permanently honoring Bald Move was the least I could do in return for the countless hours of entertainment that Jim and A.Ron have provided me over the years; from podcasts to playthroughs, Bald Move has literally reshaped the way I view television, movies, gaming, and even the world in general.

@Jim and @A_Ron_Hubbard, I sent you guys a gift in the mail that should be there tomorrow… just a small token of appreciation for everything you do.

Fuuuuuuuuuck this noise.  Bald Move is NOT failing.  I won't let it.

If I have to move my ass to Cincinnati and sell MY body on the street... well... I'm open to it.

  • What is your most mundane celebrity encounter?

Played a show at the Whisky in Hollywood.  After our set as I was tearing down my gear, dude I had noticed watching towards the front of stage came up to me and told me he really dug my bass playing.  Introduced himself as Ryan. I shook his hand and said “Right on, cool, thanks man!” and finished packing up (they run things very tight and really rush bands to get off stage).

It wasn’t until the ride back to San Diego that it dawned on me that the guy was Ryan Martinie, one of my fucking music idols.  The reason I didn’t recognize him is because back then his band (Mudvayne) performed in costume / face paint, so I only had a very vague idea of what he actually looked like.

More mundane because of who the “celebrity” was than the actual encounter itself, I suppose.  Verne Troyer was there that night too.

  • Tips for working from home?

If you can, create some sort of separation between your “work” space and your “home” space.  Gotta make sure to draw those lines and keep them unblurred.

  • What are you playing?

Binged the new Life is Strange over the past day.  Took about twelve hours from start to finish.  I enjoyed it quite a bit, mainly because I find Alex - the new protagonist - to be an excellent character, on par with Max in terms of personality, likability, and dialogue (just the right amount of cringe - but zero "hellas", unfortunately).  I might even like Alex a little better, in fact.

The story is decent, although similar to Life is Strange: Before the Storm the last chapter is a bit weak (it feels rushed overall and awkward at times) and boy did I see the big twist coming a mile away.  While the story definitely didn't grab me by the feels as much as the first one did, it still contains some outstanding moments that are mostly driven by Alex's power.

The power mechanic in this game works surprisingly well and leads to some heavy emotional story beats.  I could see how playing it through multiple times would be rewarding just for the sake of trying out some different choices.  That said, the choices in this game aren't nearly as consequential as they were in the first one.  Nothing that seismically shifts the story in one direction or another, anyway.

There's an entire LARP sequence in this game.  Your mileage may vary on that....

Oh, and it's very, very pretty.  Set in small-town Colorado, according to one of the characters when you move there you "automatically get an amazing beard, a pretentious knowledge of craft beers, and a Subaru."  Anyone who enjoyed the Arcadia Bay setting would likely find Haven Springs and its citizens to be just as charming.

I know it won't happen, and that's hella alright... but yeah, the boys would probably have a lot of fun with this one.
