  • US Politics Vol. 6: A Song of Fire and Fury - The Winds of Midterms

There's no chance going to jail.

The Democrats need to be careful.  If the blue-wave is fueled by Anti-Trump progressives, if all of the Bernie supporters who stayed home and didn't vote for Hillary come out in November, the Democrats better do SOMETHING to make them happy.  If they don't, there could very well be a permanent fracture on the left.  The DNC needs to decide if they want to be the party of the people or the party of their donors.
Have a feeling they are going to be the party of the people...until they get elected and then they will welcome the donors back with open arms (they aren't any better than the Republicans when it comes to money). What the country needs is a viable 3rd and possibly 4th party that can break the hold of the Republicans and Democrats. I lived in Australia for 6 years and while I know that is a parliamentary government, they have more than 2 parties and they have been forced to form coalition governments between independents and small parties to govern. Think it makes people more accountable since they don't just have their own party to satisfy.

As for Trump, he will never spend a day in jail and talk of impeachment will just energize his base to come out for the midterms. Personally, I would like him to resign and hand it over to Pence, but I doubt that will happen unless the Republicans get shellacked in the midterms and the shit with Cohen and Muller gets worse....maybe. And if he does resign, Pence will probably pardon him for anything he is charged with the way Ford did with Nixon.

Of course it will hurt the movement. She should be bloody ashamed of herself. We all know exactly the kind of people who will latch onto this as a gotcha.

Age of consent is irrelevant. He states in the documents she sexually assaulted him. It doesn’t matter if he was 17 or 37.
Was interested to see what you thought @Dee. Agree with you that it shouldn't matter if he was 17 and the part that kinda weirds me out is that they call each other "mother" and "son" since that is what they were in the movie they did together. Kinda creepy.

For what it's worth, I hope this won't derail the movement and that @amyja89 is right that it will help more guys to feel comfortable in coming forward. I was just so surprised to see this come from one of the women who has been such a big voice. Do you think what Weinstein did to her made her think this was acceptable behavior?
I don’t know. Wasn’t she an adult when Weinstein raped her? If she was a child, I could believe she might have confused ideas about consent. Maybe there was something else going on in her childhood that made her grow up thinking this was okay. Or maybe she’s just yet another Hollywood predator. Who knows.
Think she was 18 or 19 when Weinstein assaulted her.

And don’t @ me with any “well liberals do it too” nonsense because I don’t fucking care. If you can present to me an honest liberal actor promoting the same level of violence and hatred as Alex Jones with the same size of audience then yes, I agree, they should also be banned. That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t also ban Alex Jones in the meantime. That’s like not arresting someone just because some other guy who’s clearly guilty hasn’t been arrested yet. We should all have a baseline where people who are actively harmful to public goodwill don’t deserve a platform from which to spread that harm regardless of who’s side they’re supposedly on because they’re not on anyone’s side, they’re just assholes.
My worry comes from who gets to say what the baseline is for determining if people are actively harmful to the public goodwill. You? me? The president? Pelosi? Zuckerburg? Bernie? Ben Shapiro? Rachel Maddow? Congress? A focus group of 1,000 people from Missouri? The faculty at NYU?

I can agree that Alex Jones is a dick, but what happens when less offensive speech starts to become too much for a society that is increasingly losing the ability to deal with opinions and views that differ from theirs?

Every other Silicon Valley CEO: Ok we get it now, Alex Jones is a terrible person who not only spreads false information but actively promotes hatred and violence amongst the general populous and we can no longer allow him a platform from which to do so.

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey: Yeah but like, maybe he should be allowed to promote hatred and violence? You know, as long as it’s under a certain character count, who cares what someone says.
Twitter has been spanked for censoring people in the past. Jones is a shit and if other companies want to kick him off then they can. I think it's censorship and he should be able to say whatever he wants, same way the radical left is able to go on Facebook, Twitter, Google, Youtube and every other platform and say what they want. It's their protected right of free speech and expression. I don't have to like either one of them, but I will respect that they can say what they want. You could also, you know, not read any of it.

Bautista has threatened to quit the franchise if they don't use Gunn's  GOTG3 script, and now I'm seeing this..

I don't even like Marvel, but this offends me as a writer. Good for Bautista.
I love Disney (going to Disney World in September) and I can see where they want to keep their clean image, but this is starting to get stupid. What moron would throw out the script if it's pretty much complete? Someone high up in Disney must have a real stick up his/her ass about all this and obviously cares little for how this can hurt all the Marvel movies going forward.

To lose Bautista would be a big blow to the movie, and if all the actors banded together and said "hire him/use his script or we walk" I think Disney would have to capitulate. They may all have contracts but I am betting that the actors would be willing to put their feet to the floor and play hardball if this keeps up.

It's gone past the folks on the right who made hay of all his previous comments. This is all on Disney now in my opinion and I think they are going all in on a losing hand.
