Before this bloodbath of a thread gets the axe, I just wanted to throw in here a personal criticism I have with the concept of "devils advocate." Many people incorrectly use devils advocate as an adversarial tool instead of its actual purpose as a cooperative one. Its helpful when you are able to use it to expand your understanding of a situation to make sure all aspects are considered. It is not correct to use it to create false comparisons under the guise of impassioned logic to disagree with something.
