  • Star Trek: Picard (Spoilers Included)

For the life of me, I can't understand all of the negativity around this show - I'll concede that there are problem (as it always the case with ST), but as a TNG fan I find myself consistently entertained.

Case in point: Ep 7 "Nepenthe" - It was just a delight to see the old crew back together again - I felt that the writing was excellent and performances gripped me. I found myself surprised by how sad I was over the loss of Thad, a character who we've never actually met.  The writers really did a wonderful job of introducing him to us and the subtleties in the dialogue were masterful IMO.

I've also got to say that I really enjoy the new music theme to the show.  It reminds me of "The Inner Light" and I believe it is just the kind of music Picard would love.  I know JIm and A_Ron think it is unmemorable, but I have the tune stuck in my head.

Just watched ep 6 The Impossible Box. Best one yet. And justification for all of the annoying transparent video screens @A_Ron_Hubbard @Jim

As a psychotherapist and certified sex therapist, I can tell you that there are deep seated reasons why some folks are severely 'triggered' by the idea of same-gender relationships.  Let's say you've had erotic fantasies or attractions (even fleeting) towards the same gender at some point in your life.  Add to that the shame and judgement you learned as a result of long-time religious dogma.  What do you get? Homophobia.  I have a great deal of empathy towards folks who are locked in a prison such as this.  That said, thank you @A_Ron_Hubbard @Jim @Cecily for modeling healthy tolerance of difference...It's folks like you who make the world a better place.

  • HUMANS

I've been away on a 2 week vacation and the very first thing I did when I got home is watch the Humans finale...And it didn't disappoint!  This show does a wonderful job of comparing and contrasting how synthetic 'Humans' and biological humans evolve in terms of morality - but mostly in terms of Humanitarianism and grappling with the value of life.  The character development was stellar - I especially loved the moral conflict that faced Laura (avoiding spoilers).

I agree with @KingKobra - It is a shame AMC didn't promote this show like it does Preacher.  But I never understood why SyFy did such a crap job of promoting The Expanse either.  I'll never get why these networks make the decisions they do.  I truly hope this show continues....

  • HUMANS

Lo and behold - Just catching up on the latest Westworld podcast 207-Les Escorrches - HUMANS is mentioned at 1:48:35 as a potentially good show for the depiction of AI.  What I am loving in HUMANS is the evolution of emotional intelligence in the green-eyed synths.  The awareness that they are becoming more emotionally invested and that is more 'human' - They embrace it.  Interestingly, actual humans do the opposite:  The reject their emotional selves. This is a topic I am interested in on due to the fact that I'm a psychotherapist.  And it can be a hazard when watching any program since I'll analyze a pizza pie.
