Am i wrong to think that Trout settled here and could have gotten more (both total and annual)?  I feel like Trout definitely could have pulled down 40mil a year on the open market from someone.
he wouldn't be able to try on the open market that for another 2 years. Like @Hatorian said his play is to go for the big money now, and not risk injury, regression, etc.

I know MLB contracts are guaranteed but Trout is still only 27 right now.  So, in 2 years, he's 29.  Still young enough to grab a huge payday.  But in cases like Trout, with no major injury history, i'm not going to advise him to be scared and take the money now be because he could get injured.  If you think like that, then why do any of these guys go to free agency and why not just take discount deals just because there's money on the table.  Yes, it's a risk, but so is everything.  Baseball is not football, hockey, or even basketball  It's basically a non-contact sport.  Nor is Trout a pitcher where your arm is basically going to get inured at some point.  So, for him, I would say the risk is lower than other players and the reward (for his talent) is much much higher.  Still think he could have gotten a massive deal on the open market, but we'll never know now.
Best case scenario for Tourt his he turns 29 and crosses 500mil. But locking in 430mil now is by far the smartest thing to do. Especially when the CBA is due up in 2021 and who knows what could happen there. He’s played it safe but he’s also made smart decisions that there’s no guarantee that 500mil will be there for him and worst case the CBA makes serious changes where the owners snag more power. Dude is now set for life and can start making that money work for him. He can easily invest that money and make back what he potentially lost by waiting.

90% of the brackets are either Duke vs NC or Duke vs Tenn.

Plus  if he does this it would drive down prices for Bryant cuz there’s no way dude can argue for anything close to that unless he pulls off 2 more MVPs in the 3 years before he becomes a FA

Baseball contracts are guaranteed. Dude should get that contract signed ASAP before he blows out a knee or suffers a chronic injury. It’s a no brainer for him to sign now. Even if he’s giving up 50mil or so by waiting.

Dukes gonna win. But I have a few Cinderella’s going deep. I like Wooford. I actually think 3 of the 4 best teams are on the left side of the bracket.
