@cbspock they are the bottom of the totem pole minimum wage guys. They are not there because they are rocket scientists. It is also likely whomever is masterminding this whole thing specifically picked these two dumbasses because they knew they would fuck up.

To me the main narrative thrust of this season has become pretty clear. Theresa in an attempt to overthrow Ford's control of the park unlocked the Bicameral system in order sabotage the woodcutter and perhaps a few other Hosts to make them seem like a threat.

However she unlocked Pandora's Box and ether Arnold himself that he downloaded into the system or some sort of Trojan virus he left in the system has taken over and has begun rewriting the older Hosts.

I find it interesting that apparently even Ford is unaware of the scope of the changes and I think Anthony Hopkins isn't long for this show. I was pretty worried for him by the end of this episode.

    RIP Elsie? :'(

    Notable quotes:

Teddy: "The maze is an old Native myth... The maze itself is the sum of a man's life: choices he makes, dreams he hangs on to. And there at the center, there's a legendary man who had been killed over and over again, countless times, but always clawed his way back to life. The man returned for the last time and vanquished his oppressors in a tireless fury. He built a house, and around that house he built a maze so complicated, only he could navigate through it. I reckon he'd seen enough of fighting."

Ford: "Arnold said that great artists always hid themselves in their work."

@Luke It was interesting to see they uncovered the changes already made to her. I assume this Bicameral system was involved in the first disaster in the park? Interesting that this tech was basically forgotten about. Only the old hosts can be accessed by it. I guess they better go check storage before it unlocks those hosts. Could it be just the act of turning the system on is causing the problem, and its just automatically re-writing old hosts?

The Arnold thing could also be a Red Herring.

It's entirely possible Ford is using Arnold's old log in to cover his tracks. I think it's safe to say it's either he or Arnold that would have the expertise with the Hosts to orchestrate this whole thing with no one realizing it.

One big minutiae question I have is how the hell did Delores and the other old hosts go from the crazy Data like androids to replicants? Obviously the brain was always some sort of Wetware or the transition just doesn't work.

To me the move to the organic Hosts was probably the straw that broke the camels back for Arnold. It seems like they put a ton of work into the first model Hosts and in the end the park turned them into meat based fuck puppets.

It is interesting the young Ford host basically told Ford the Greyhound story he told MIB in the last episode. Also, Ford's introduction of the reveries seems to be one of the things "Arnold" is now exploiting in the older hosts, and that is why Ford can't figure out what is going on.

This series is going to rely on "human error" as the culprit, which I think is cool because it's SOOOOOOO True.

    For all my two-timer peeps:

    image

This, unlike the previous instances of the "modern" logo we've seen, is consumer-facing. You can tell it's consumer-facing because it is in the same area as the wall with the welcome video, and it has, "A Delos Destination (TM)" added.

It is completely unlike the one William saw. Two time periods, people.

No one ever said W=MiB isn't possible... Just that it's boring.

For me, the more interesting plot line is that William and Logan are bystanders to this present - day robot uprising.. And maeve/Dolores/William end up going center stage.

MiB's backstory is a C plot now, sorry.
  • I thought this week was a really weak episode.

The whole Maeve storyline doesn't make any sense.  Why put her intelligence all the way to the top when you can immediately put it all the way to the bottom, reset her, and get on with your life?  Not exactly rocket science.

I was bored for most of this one.

It really only served to show her programming was already being tampered with. It was interesting in that she figured out what she needed to do in Westworld to get back to the body shop.

Also, I wonder what Ford'a new narrative is going to turn out to be, and why is he deliberalty upsetting on going narratives in the park

This episode was just okay.  There were some interesting things - Bernard finding about Ford's old tech family that he keeps hidden and they are changing.  Elsie's findings that Teresa was trying to sabotage Ford etc but may have messed with the old tech aka original bots.  Arnold might be still alive.

But the whole Maeve self realization didn't do it for me due to those two stupid, unlikeable techs with her.  Once was supposed to be sympathetic but it just wasn't believable he just seemed naive and stupid.  The other okay she blackmailed him but he just seemed like an arrogant idiot.  Couldn't he stop her or mess with her ratings.

Then they wasted so much space on that narrative British guys who is a complete wanker.

I expect better from this show.  It needs to cut the dead weight.
  • I also thought this was below average.  We're in full Promotheus land with these moronic engineers and scientists.

Goddamn... This show is almost too good to exist.

@GredalBee And that's with your statement being correct.
  • cbspockcbspock San Antonio, Texas
When Teddy was firing the Gatling gun was he flashing back to inicident in the park from 30 years ago?

The one part of the Maeve story I liked was when they showed her the PADD with her program flow chart and she blue screened.
  • Well I at least feel vindicated in what I was saying in the last thread that no one else seemed to believe. Even the original first gen hosts from day one in the park were just as life-like as the current-gen flesh & bone based hosts and are nothing like Old Bill. The off-the-grid Ford family that Arnold built proves this beyond any doubt.

It's looking like the staging for what's to come is rooted in two primary things, that are both parts of Arnold's pyramid of consciousness.

    1) Ford unlocks reveries for the hosts. This gives the hosts memories and is the base of the pyramid, and as far as Ford knows is perfectly safe because he didn't know that meanwhile 2) others have restored Arnold's bicameral mind system to broadcast override commands, which combined essentially completes the pyramid and creates the environment for the hosts to potentially become self-aware and other unexpected chaos to ensue.

@OldGriswold Yeah I generally agree, though it seemingly wouldn't quite be that simple. I got the impression that it's to the point where they can't delete her memories anymore, that they already tried to and she is remembering and intentionally getting killed/whatever to return to them. Plus if they just lower INT to 1 or something she wouldn't be able to function in her role anymore and would be flagged and analyzed by Behavioral and they'd see that these dipshit techs changed her.

This episode conclusively proves the two timelines theory is wrong.

Maeve has been madam for less than a year. William and Logan interacted with Maeve as madam.

Edit: see my post below where I retract this.

Did they? I don't think they have.

I'm actually coming around to the two timelines theory, though honing in on the nuances. The old and new logos make me suspect there are 2 general timelines.

Here's my thinking in terms of timeline:

    1) Current day: This has MIB, Maeve, Teddy, and crew. Maeve introduced to Sweetwater only a year ago but was previously part of the storyline of her and her child.

    2) 30 years ago: William, Logan come to park. This is the story of the first massive failure. No Maeve, no Teddy. My guess is that Teddy was added to keep Dolores in Sweetwater.

    3) 34 years ago: Arnold "dies." Dolores said this was the date of the last conversation.

In short, I'm coming around to the idea that the editors have edited how the scenes are stitched together to really screw with audience to build up to an oh sh*t moment at the end of the season.
