A few shows that I've checked out lately that I'd recommend to one degree or another:
Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency - a very loose adaptation of the Douglas Adams novel. It captures the spirit of the character from that book and little else. I wouldn't rave about it, but it's decent 'light' tv viewing.
The Wire - I've seen it all before, but it's been years so I wanted to watch it with fresh eyes and (hopefully!) a more mature understanding.
Rectify - just finished up this series recently, great show! I'm really surprised that it hasn't gotten more acclaim.
Pushing Daisies - an older network show that was first recommended to me about 7 years ago. I've finally gotten around to watching it and I regret not getting to it sooner. It's fairly light, but the cast and the writing are both great. It almost has a Wes Anderson vibe to it at times.
Man in the High Castle - I forgot about that, great show!
I've seen all but the current season of Vikings. I like it and will keep watching it, but it probably says something that it keeps getting pushed to the bottom of my list when I sit down to watch TV.
The Wire. Just got through 206 and I'm in full FUCK ZIGGY mode. This show is so good and it looks glorious in high def. And my opinions and thoughts have really changed since the first time around. I'm getting a few more layers. Like, I always knew McNulty is a fool, but at the end of season one his strategy of wanting to punish the criminal at the expense of letting the politicians off the hook is just the shitty police strategy of "buy bust/rip and roll" writ large. All of the corruption stems at the political level, you can't fix anything when it's broken, but McNulty makes it personal between him and the Barksdale gang. Even good police like McNulty get sucked in by the game.
It's also really fun watching with someone who's never seen it. My whole life is in "mildly interesting" territory now.
I did Man in the High Castle during a long road trip over New Year's. Currently watching Mozart in the Jungle S3. Then on to Call the Midwife based off the other thread on here.
@A_Ron_Hubbard Season 2 has one of the coolest "how people connect" stories of the series. Nothing special when it happened, but after you watch the "Marlo steals the plug" subplot in season 5, the big picture of how crazy people's priorities are really gets put in perspective.
I rented the first season of The Wire from Blockbuster 2 times before I actually watched it properly. Best show ever, but it takes effort. It's the mountain climbing of tv.
Every time I get a notification for my HBONow autopayment I just think to myself "oh yeah... I have that." Pretty sure at this point I've paid roughly 300 bucks to watch 4 different series a couple of times each and Blast From the Past once. Still feel alright about that financial decision, oddly enough.
Just finished Season 2 of Man in The High Castle and Season 1 of The Expanse. Both got better and better as they went along to the point they're not top notch on my lists, but they're very good and worth a watch.
Similarly watched the OA which I'd describe as interesting but wouldn't necessarily recommend it.
Black Mirror I'm catching up on (Season 2) and that really is very good.
Just started watching Travelers....we'll see how that goes
Man in the High Castle is my stair clmber / elliptical viewing at the gym, so it's gonna take me another 6 gym days to get through it all. It's really pretty good so far.

This season is, pardon the pun, such an amazing Greek tragedy after about the first 3 episodes. I remember thinking how slow it was, and then by the end I was rivited.
The killer feature of Amazon for me is offline downloading of everything. I have crappy Wifi at the gym, and you can download everything onto your device on the Amazon app, including the old HBO shows.
Just binged Dead Set on Netflix. It's only 1 season, 5 episodes. I liked it. Just all the British slang & line delivery alone was interesting and peculiar. Filmed in 2008, I can't believe this one slipped by me. These are "28 days" style zombies, i.e. fast as hell. It was fun.
Last night we started The OA. Really impressive. This is my new binge.
