Any Coverage This Season?

I've only watched the first ep so far (trying to savour it), but is there going to be any coverage of the show this season?

I thought ARon said on a recent Lunch that this was going to be BMTV type casts with @Cecily I could be wrong though and it met the same fate as HOC.

Am I the only one finding this season unwatchably bad?

My cousin usually comes over on the weekends to watch movies and last night we watched the first 3 episodes of season 5 instead. I found them to be pretty inconsistent but "ok". Today I watch episode 4 and then half way through episode 5 I just turned it off, I'm done. I find the tonal shifts really jarring and the character motivations and actions are wildly inconsistent. The prison riot should have been 2-3 episodes, but it's still going in episode 5 with no end in sight so I'm guessing it lasts the entire season - that's a really bad creative decision imo.

This season seems to be a big stretch i was very critical of the writting last year when it came to the new guards all being war veterans that were all fucked up. I thought it wasnt going to get much worse but it does.

This series can no longer be considered a comedy even though it does have the occassional solid one liner like "Johnny Cockhands from the BJ Story" but ultimately this show is in a veru different position than S1 and im not sure i like where it is going.

A lot of the issues are similar to TWD in that its such a large ensemble cast its hard to figure get everyone the ball every game but i definitely wouldnt be able to do any better than whats being dished up but its just not the same show as previous season.

My issue with this season isn't that it's not funny, it's that it's funny at the worst possible times - moments of drama and tension are shattered (not relieved!) by wildly inappropriate moments of humour....like the woman who works for the company that runs the prison - she's being taken hostage during a prison riot in which one guard has already been shot and she's insisting on not giving up her jacket or shoes, and they play that scene for laughs!?  There are a bunch of scenes like that where the humour is so beyond the seriousness of the scene that it's jarring.  Sometimes (when done correctly) humour - even inappropriate humour - can be used to relieve the tension in a scene....but this season is example after example of the humour ruining a scene, taking the viewer out of it and leaving behind a muddy show that doesn't have any sort of tone that the viewer can get in synch with...it's a drama that doesn't allow itself to be dramatic and a comedy with horrific comedic timing.

Just finished the season. I'm not as down on it as some seem to be but it certainly wasn't the best that OITNB can be. I did enjoy just watching the chaos unfold, but for a 13 episode season that covered only 72 hours, a lot of plot points felt rushed and unfinished, which shouldn't have been the case given the luxury of time.

I'm not sure the whole season over spanning a few days has ever really worked that well, a few shows have tried an not succeeed (I will leave the first few 24 seasons out of this) it does feel like a way to extend Piper's time in prison. I personally believe that OITNB can exist without Piper as the lead given the size of the cast and the options available to move the story onto another lead

Yeah, I don't know. We hated the first three episodes. Does it get better? We're willing to Bald Move TV it if it's worth talking a out. We're three episodes into House of Cards and I'm enjoying it for what it is. It's so stupid now, haha.

@A_Ron_Hubbard My daughter said it gets better after the first 4 or 5 episodes but I'm not super enthused to start if I have to sit through 5 crappy hours to get to anything good.

...like Sophia's?  Agreed.

I did really enjoy the season though, despite that.  I thought it had just enough action to keep me paying close attention.

Yeah, shit gets kinda real in the latter episodes.  Check 'em out, you never know.  And if you don't like 'em, hey, no big.

@A_Ron_Hubbard I think its the hardest season to watch so far, I'm at Episode 11 at the moment and it has improved but marginally. 

The last episode I watched was by far the darkest that they have made in the series, I think if you did 3 eps at a time on cast and limited it to an hour it would might be good to round out the coverage in the feeds but given your schedule lately it might be another case of poor timing and give it a miss. 

If you do a cast I could imagine it would be max 1 hour and just talk major plot points and your feelings about them rather than it being a full cast.

I would like to hear ARon's and Cecily's thoughts, but I honestly think they could put their time to better use. I started watching this season and it is simply not good. I'm going to have to force myself to finish watching it.

All the Chickens

I keep wondering how they are going to realistically keep Piper in prison since she only has a few weeks left and surely wouldn't be stupid/crazy enough to do something bad enough again to get more time tacked on. And then they hit us with an entire season spanning over a few days.

I also realized that the writers aren't at all interested in realistic storytelling, so we might get Piper being a ridiculous human in prison and Alex rolling her eyes for many more seasons.

They have also reduced Piper to as much of a side character as any of the other side characters, so I'm not sure it really matters.

I'm on episode 7 and I'm wondering when things kicked off again. It's been a lot slower paced but I still love the show enough to watch it and I do feel like there is a big payoff coming that I'm waiting for

I used to love this show but dang, this season was a big dip. It still has some heartbreaking character moments but almost all of it seems so contrived. There is a huge prison riot going on and somehow Piper and Alex barely care and are still skipping off to suck face in a closet somewhere. I get that they think they are the most important people there but it just rings hollow.

I have two episodes left so I'm still curious to see how it all turns out but I really expected more from this show. I would understand if @A_Ron_Hubbard and @Cecily didnt do anything with it but even just one cast about the season, if they finish it, would be nice!

Yeah, we watched the first 3, and woof.  I haven't heard anything but luke warm praise for the latter half of the season.  I think it's probably time to cut it loose.  I imagine when we get to a dry season we might give it a poke for completeness sake, but things are way too busy with stuff I enjoy at the moment.  Like, I'm desperately trying to get through Twin Peaks so I can have at least something to say and talk about for Bald Move TV before it's new season wraps on Show Time.

Yeah, I get it. It sucks the show is losing its magic. Even though I'd love to hear you rip on it, it's not worth the time for you guys. It sucks the show isn't good enough to cover anymore because I loved the coverage you did a couple seasons ago where you'd have a rotating casts of co-hosts and we got all kinds of different perspectives.

I haven't seen TP yet. Good insane or bad? 

Just to add relevance to this post being in OITNB thread... 

I found this season amusing but mostly because I err...didn't watch them all on Netflix. So, the production value was hilarious at times (men's voices dubbed in as placeholders for off-screen comments yet to be recorded).
