Harmontown freestyle

I feel like the only people they’re entertaining with this are themselves. Maybe they don’t care, but I haven’t finished an episode for months because dan keeps on free styling. “I fucked your mom” was sorta funny the first couple times I heard it, but man let it die already! I

I'm on episode 93 and he hasn't freestyled in a while. But count me among the weird people who enjoy how he kept going back to the "I fucked your momma" crutch.

Also "mouth" --> "East, west, north, south."

I find him insufferable. I have tried to listen to that cast and the one about racism and I can never get past 20 minutes or so. He is so obnoxious.

It waxes and wanes, but he never stops. I love it. I like his rapping better than most of the D&D stuff. I don't make it through most of the D&D sessions.

  • I find the rapping very entertaining.  Lately he's been using it as a way to psyche himself up at the beginning of the show with mixed success.  I really enjoyed the D&D back in the day, but this latest incarnation is a little lackluster.

Yeah, it has its moments, but the RPG stuff is very uneven in an already uneven podcast. My favorite is in between campaigns when they just do improv.

I do love Harmonquest though. The stuff on the pod feels half-assed and half-hearted a lot.

The episode I just heard, Spencer took the night off (for the first time!) and Dan DM'd a random new game in Ice-T's voice. Is that racist? Whatever, I'm an ignorant fuck who was dying laughing the whole time.

The D&D is dull though. Unless there's an interesting guest, I skip it.

Agreed about the rapping being more engaging than the D&D stuff. D&D requires more structure than Harmontown is willing to offer. That's why Harmonquest is so great.

Personally, I love the freestyling. Maybe it's because I like rap, idk.

I will always cherish the brilliant space-opera, improv/freestyle madness that was the end of Ep. 135 (Wide). Maybe Harmon should just improv songs instead of trying to freestyle rap.

  • I think my favorite improv was when they had Mike Mitchell and Nick Wiger on from the Doughboys podcast, who played evil and good twin babies at Disneyland.  Good stuff.  It inspired me to listen to their podcast, which is also hilarious.

I think we may have discussed this very thing before on the board before, but same here. That Disneyland improv was amazing. And Doughboys is easily my top 3 favorite podcasts of the week. Are you a Double subscriber? I am and I adore having twice as much to listen to.
  • @Garthgou81. Yes, the doughboys double is great.  I'm really happy we're getting another Munch Madness right now.  Between the horrible puns and overly complicated rating system it's comic gold.

Seriously. I just finished this week's episode with Costco vs California Pizza Kitchen. Its freaking killing me. I just want to hang out with the two of them so badly. I watched The Force Awakens with their commentary earlier in the week, that felt as close as I will get to accomplishing that desire.
  • @Garthgou81. Marisa Pinson is hilarious.  I love how she piles on anytime they insult each other.  Nick and Mitch are actually really good at getting hilarious guests that fit right in with their style of humor.

Yeah, they definitely are. I usually am ambivalent to guests on podcasts, but they do such a great job picking theirs and making them a part of the show that I love it. There have been a couple that I haven't jived with. But in general I dig 95% of them. What are your thoughts on Bug Mane?
  • Haha, Bug Mane is definitely a troll, but I found him pretty entertaining.  I think Armin is the only guest that has gone too far as the "agent of chaos" style guest.
