This whole pandemic has me wanting to start doing a little gardening.  No idea where to start.  No idea if I'll actually do it.  But I'm feeling like it right now.  Hopefully once I get moved in a few weeks I'll still want to.

Join us in the Animal Crossing thread.  :D

Don't feel bad, @Michelle, you might actually have it. Have you SEEN the survival rate?  ;) Glad you're feeling better.

Yeah, that crossed my mind too.  I'm washing hands, distancing, wearing my mask in public.
    And thanks. :)
    How have you been feeling?

In relation to being sick a while back? I'm fine now. In relation to living alone during the worst time to live alone, I'm taking a few days every 2 weeks to visit family 2 hours south, get some sunshine and outdoors. Not the best time to live in an apartment either.

Just remember Singapore is exactly 12 hours ahead of you so if you are lonely and it’s late and you got no one awake you can ping me. It will be my late morning/afternoon. Just reach out! You will probably save me from some boring meeting about making sure sales don’t suffer during the harshest economic issue we or anyone alive faced as adults.

  • Haven’t confirmed if this is true but if so people need to rethink if opening up is a good idea.

IIRC it mutated. It was also then much more deadly to the 20-40 year olds.

Edit: Also, thank you, I might take you up on that!

@Michelle I have pretty much permanent hay fever, but every morning when I wake up sniffly and clearing my throat for the first couple of hours, in the back of my head I still wonder, “is this it...?” And then I go around sniffing perfumes and lemons to make sure I still have a sense of smell, as I’ve heard loss of taste and smell is an early symptom of Covid-19.

Glad you’re on the mend anyway, take it easy and just baby yourself. :-)

Figured there was an asterisk to it. That’s why I said I need to check if correct.

Can’t remember if youre into art but I wouldn’t mind dusting off Draw Something if your into doodling a few times a day and guessing at my horrible handwriting...haha

hey @MichaelG - what's the word in Washington State? i don't hear much on that status, esp since it's where shit really got bad in the states when this awfulness started.

I echo this feeling. It really has been a disaster for the US. You would think a global pandemic might be the one time people would actually come together, but no. It got even worse. Mostly exposed the flaws of the country.

I've started taking Wednesdays off from all news and political stuff. I gotta keep my sanity. Anyway. Yesterday the Harris County (Houston Area) Judge mandated that for the next 30 days everyone must wear masks out in public. Doesn't seem like a big deal and makes sense to me. Well the MAGA bros have taken this as an affront to their constitutional rights and are defiantly bucking this order.

For those of you who aren't familiar with the situation, the county judge is Lina Hidalgo. She's a young, hispanic, democrat, woman. I'm fairly certain if this order was coming from her long time predecessor the old, white, man, republican Ed Emmett, you wouldn't hear a peep from these people.

Same here - they're mandatory as of 12:01 am tomorrow for all indoor spaces (except your own home) and all outdoor spaces where distancing 6 ft. away is not doable.  The exceptions are babies, toddlers, people with asthma.  Our county health officer is female and all the good ol' boys (and the Northern Cali rednecks who love 'em) around here are all up in their own butts about their constitutional rights, how Covid-19 is a hoax, how we have had a huge drop (almost a halt) in positive cases, blah blah blah.  I'm surrounded by idiots.

"I think the south east states don’t expect to be open long. Just long enough to flush the unemployment roles and then close down again."

"Ok imagine the most cynical reason you can for each of the seemingly weird policy choices states are adopting. That’s probably why they’re doing it."

"yep. georgias not planning on re-opening up schools, but low-wage jobs like hairdressers are planning on re-opening? if youre cynical enough, you can see it as a targeted re-opening where only the poorest are forced off the dole while keeping the kids of the genteel, and thus, the genteel themselves, safe and sound"

I feel ya! I'd like to get out of here before that, but yeah...
So the Re-Open Florida Task Force has been meeting this week to make plans for reopening. There is not one single doctor or health expert on the committee. It is comprised entirely of elected Republicans, reps from the largest corporations and trade groups. And at least on the first day, they did not bother to discuss any health ramifications to reopening. They did close schools for the year, but I'm expecting them to try to open up everything else way, way too soon. https://www.tampabay.com/florida-politics/buzz/2020/04/20/governors-task-force-to-reopen-florida-will-make-recommendations-this-week/?fbclid=IwAR2I7K_eh0EqpTybfuIlvDjmnmzhr4SVFk7WUWE28ajThuhXoGZ7ZY3tQes

I'm feeling pretty cynical and I do suspect that there's at least a measure of that in the reopening plans. If you run a small business and feel it's not safe to reopen but your state has officially reopened, I'm pretty sure you can't get financial aid, since you're choosing not to open. And the same with unemployment–if you choose not to go back to work because you feel unsafe, or you don't accept a new job offer for that reason, then you cease to qualify for unemployment benefits. I'm also starting to see articles that say the next federal aid package has $150 billion for state and local funding, but it will be withheld from states that won't reopen. If true, that is spectacularly insidious.

People may see this as funny, but I'm past that point.  I just see it as terribly sad, on multiple levels.
  • I mean it’s like the person who decided to make a sign saying “Kill the Weak” and bring it to a protest. It just requires such a lack of empathy to not only think that but be willing to broadcast it publicly, and the fact that these people are celebrated as Rosa Park style heroes in certain circles is just deeply depressing.

Unless a reporter interviews the person, which 95% of the time they don't because most reporters are not good at their job, I can't take it seriously.

It is a common tactic from the the fringe right and left to show up at protests with stupid signs. Also CNN has been caught more than once bringing their own signs to report on.

There are still a ton of other things to be depressed about in Coronaworld

Is it fringe through? I feel like it’s pretty mainstream as far as vocal advocates on the right are conceded. Keep seeing a whole lot of “well if tens of thousands have to die to save the economy then so be it” and I don’t think that’s a dissimilar idea to “kill the weak”.

Tuesday night I had stomach bug symptoms. Called in sick. Have sick days. Also have a metric ton of unused vacation time (typical American). So apparently the stomach bug and Covid have enough overlapping symptoms that I had to go thru telephonic nurse triage to FaceTime Dr visit and it was determined I didn’t meet enough CDC criteria to require a Covid test. But CDC also says be 72hrs fever free so I stayed home yesterday and now today. So it’s weird cause a lot of Covid patients in Wuhan did just experience stomach bug symptoms. So...kind of a weird spot to be in. The 1 hr between the nurse triage and the Dr face time I was asked to separate from the fam. Was in the master bedroom, our pre-planned ‘area’ God forbid, and I’m wearing a mask while putting on gloves when my 7 yr old came to the door and said worried and scared “Daddy what’s happening?”  That was pretty rough.  But feeling great today. Hopefully just a false alarm. Dumb that we all can’t just get tested, and with a good test with quick response.
