Bit of a sad day. I lost a cousin today to Covid. She was older (late 70s) and had COPD, then unfortunately got Covid. She was on a BiPap to assist with oxygen since her lungs were so severely affected. She lost her fight this afternoon. Anyone who knows me really well knows how much of a soft spot I have for Hood River, Oregon. Several years ago when i went on my own Ancestry journey to find the identity of my grandmother’s biological parents (she was adopted not long after birth), I connected with her on the Ancestry.com site and she really helped a lot... welcomed me to that side of the family, sent me photocopies of pictures of my great grandfather, his parents & siblings, their old home up on the hill with acres upon acres of their own fruit orchards stretching across the hills, took me around the family homesteads when I visited, to the family’s packing plant, introduced me to more of that side of the family, etc. I hope she knows just how special what she did for me truly was. She was a remarkably selfless woman who loved her family above all else, and I will always treasure her.
got my second dose earlier today, and now having the Dr. A_Ron recommended Taco Bell meal to hopefully avoid any major symptoms. wish me luck!
holy crap, i got my ass kicked yesterday (the day after my second dose). extremely lethargic, mad chills, achy bones, and mild fever all day. i was on the couch ALL day in and out of sleep. i took some Advil PM around 11pm, slept through the night and woke up feeling totally fine. so crazy, it was like night and day. guess i'm now invincible!

His career is dead and the only way he can get attention these days is by filming himself being shitty to retail staff, so he’s kind of cancelled himself.
Ricky Schroder is an ass. He also helped bail Kyle Rittenhouse out of jail. He said it "pissed him off" that Rittenhouse was in jail because "he's just a kid" - sure, a kid who took a gun he shouldn't have had, crossed state lines and murdered two people, then went home and went to bed. Now he's posing with neoNazis, giving white power signs in pictures. Nice kid.
How are you guys feeling about the CDC's new mask recommendations for the vaccinated? I trust the science, I do... and I'm fully vaccinated, but... I do not feel ready at all to stop wearing masks and I'm not going to. It just feels too soon for that, and masks are such an easy thing to do. Plus now that they're saying not enough people are getting vaccinated to reach herd immunity in the U.S., it worries me that we're going too fast in relaxing and who knows what variants will develop. I read that the largest nurse's union in the US is against it and says it isn't based on science or public health. I plan to continue wearing one and being cautious, just like I have been. I don't plan to travel anytime soon. I'm very fortunate that my small company took a survey to see how many wanted to keep working from home and 90% of us do, so we're able to keep that up. I was comforted by this Vice article: "People Aren't Addicted to Wearing Masks, They're Traumatized" because while I'm certainly not traumatized like health care workers or other essential workers and I didn't lose any family members to COVID, the last year and a half has been filled with a lot of uncertainty, so it makes sense that maintaining some sense of control feels better.
I will continue to wear masks in public spaces until the law says I can't anymore. Pre-pandemic, wearing a mask in a gas station, restaurant, or store would cause a lot of problems. It's a level of anonymity that we aren't usually allowed.
I'll forego the mask when visiting friends and family, or walking in the park or whatever.
I'll probably aggressively mask during cold & flu season.
Also, where I live as of today 27.22% of the population (county) have gotten one dose. 23.05% of the population are fully vaccinated. So there's that.
I live in Mass where 55% of the state is fully vaccinated now, and last weekend, for the first time since the first week in March 2020, my board game group was able to meet in person (we had a "must be fully vaccinated" requirement and my household is fully vacced except my 3 year old), and while in the grand scheme of things it was incredibly minor, it just felt so nice to have that slice of normalcy back.

Sounds like you’ll have some extra healthy flu free years ahead of you bro

Yeah I am definitely keeping some masks in my car from now on and wearing them whenever I'm going to the doctor/hospital etc and will try and wear them whenever I feel under the weather. There was essentially no flu this year because of masking.

Glad you're feeling better now. 2 weeks 'til you're fully vaxxed! That's so awesome.
